Chereads / What? I'm a Silverfox Beastkin? / Chapter 34 - Prayer (Tails' POV)

Chapter 34 - Prayer (Tails' POV)

(She seems to be recovering nicely. You don't have to worry anymore, Fluffy. I'll take care of her.)

(Then, I'm counting on you. And stop calling me that.)

When the Silverwolf Elder asked me about Mimin's condition. I assured him that Mimin is going to be fine, and he left the both of us alone. That conversation happened six hours ago, after lunch.

Now, it seems like Mimin is able to greatly recover within only six hours. Although she's not consciously doing it, she's swinging her tail around and her ears are twitching again. This is much more assuring to see, compared to six hours ago. Her eyes have also regained some of their shine, which means she's feeling better about her situation now.

She had so many questions, and was hating herself so much, that she was losing herself to depression. But now, it seems like she has gotten the answers she needed, and she's managing to overcome her negative emotions.

Mimin looks weak on the outside, but she's really strong, physically and mentally. She's managing to recover from her trauma just fine. Well, she was never a normal child to begin with.

Currently, I'm just watching her from her left, at a distance of about 20 metres away. I call for her through telepathy since it's about time for dinner.

(It's time for dinner! Mimin!)

The group of Silverwolves and White Foxes who have just returned, are leaving everything they've gathered in one big pile, as usual. I went ahead and picked out two Wild Boars for my dinner.

I approached Mimin to accompany her for now. I didn't see Mimin move anywhere, but apparently she already has two Horned Rabbits in front of her. She's still staring at them in a daze.

(Where did you get these two? I didn't see you move at all.)

(Ah... Tails... these are from the afternoon hunt. I didn't take them out of my storage earlier.)

That explains. She was with me the entire time while everyone else was having lunch.

(That's fine. Now, let's eat. You skipped lunch earlier, so you must be hungry now.)

I said so, trying to test Mimin to see how much better she's feeling now. Despite her fast recovery, it's only been six hours, so I'm kind of doubtful that she's anywhere near fully recovering.

(...)

As expected, she's probably still not ready, huh? But she needs to eat something or she'll end up starving.

(Do you still need more time?)

(Oh! No! I'm fine... It's just... Yeah, let's eat.)

I've went ahead and started eating already, but Mimin hasn't started. Instead, she kneels down on her knees, puts her hands together, interlocking her fingers, and gently closes her eyes. Then, she murmurs quietly to herself.

"Thanks for the food."

She picks up a Horned Rabbit and starts to hesitate for a split second, before taking a bite. As the meal progressed, she starts to shed a few tears again.

(Are you okay, Mimin?)

(...Yeah. I just... I can't stop thinking about how these Horned Rabbits are the parents of... I'm fine, so don't worry about me.)

Well, if she says so. I decide to not question her any further about this matter. I guess I'm a little too worried about her recovery, after all.

----------

It's currently night time. Mimin is sitting beside me, leaning against my fur, as we watched the stars and the night sky together.

(It's beautiful no matter how many times I see it...)

During the night, this is one of Mimin's favourite things to do. Relaxing after a day of hard work, and enjoying the simple things that the world around us has to offer.

Tonight, there's a full moon in the sky. A full moon only happens around once every month, so Mimin enjoys herself on these nights more than usual.

(...Hey, Tails?)

(Hm?)

(About today, um, I just want to say, thanks a lot. You helped me a lot today, and I can't thank you enough.

You really saved me. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably still be depressed even now. I could only recover so quickly thanks to you. You listened to me, and cared for me. I just... How can I repay you?)

(What is this about all of a sudden? You don't have to repay me. We're family, aren't we? It's only natural that I do my best for you. Besides, it doesn't have to be me. Even if it was anyone else, they would do the same for you.)

It's not like I'm the only one who could have helped Mimin today. If anyone saw Mimin in that condition, they would never ignore her. In fact, everyone today was worried for her, even though they've never talked to her before.

(Tails...)

As Mimin is starting to cheer up, I notice that there's a shooting star, which hasn't appeared for a long time now. It seems to be really far away, as it travels slowly in the night sky. I direct Mimin's attention towards it and changed the mood.

(Mimin, look! There's a shooting star!)

(Oh! I see it! I should make a wish quickly.)

Just like earlier, Mimin kneels on her knees, puts her hands together and interlocks her fingers. With her eyes closed and her head facing down, she proceeds to make her wish.

This is... This is the first time I've seen Mimin so serious about wishing upon a shooting star. With her shrine maiden clothes and her posture, she almost looks like a real shrine maiden, offering a prayer to the gods above.

As if responding to her prayer, the wind starts to blow gently. With her silver hair fluttering in the wind, it starts to shine as the moonlight glimmers on her, emphasizing her unnatural beauty.

As the moonlight glimmers, Mimin wears a solemn expression on her face. Without any movements, she continues making her wish. Silence fills the surroundings as I watched, captivated by her performance.

During her wish, a few drops of tears start to fall again. The wind gets stronger and carries away her tears, as they glittered in the moon light. As the tears fade away into the air, the wind blows gently once again.

As if acknowledging her wish, the shooting star shines brightly for a split second, and fades away beyond the horizon. The wind fades away, and Mimin slowly opens her eyes. Her red and blue eyes shine naturally in the moonlight from moisture, unlike her dull eyes which she had earlier.

As she finishes making her wish, I'm at a loss of words. I continued watching her until she turns around and notices me watching her.

(Ah! That was... I just felt like that was the right thing to do...)

(You've done well, Mimin.)

With that, she seems to have recovered from her trauma, in just a single day. It is unexpectedly fast, but that's fine with me. After another hour, Mimin finally falls asleep in my fur. She's sleeping peacefully, as if she's having the greatest sleep she's had in a while.
