(Fluffy. Why are you teaching me these things about Librum if I'm only staying in the Forest of Magic?)
(Well, it doesn't hurt to know, right? We are living on this continent after all, maybe one day you'll need this knowledge. It's unlikely, but you might as well learn about Librum, just in case.)
It's time for lunch now, and I take out a Horned Rabbit like usual. I think I'm already used to the smell of blood, since I no longer need to use magic to filter the air I breathe in. To think that it's only a month ago when I started to smell blood for the first time.
(We'll continue with the lesson after lunch.)
(Yes!)
----------
(So, let's continue where we left off. The guilds. You already know that they put up requests and rewards across all guilds, and they buy animal and beast materials at a good price.)
Fluffy continues with the lesson now that lunch is settled. My shrine maiden clothes are still as clean as usual, since I'm always careful during lunch.
(All of the guilds maintain communication with one another, in order to make sure they know when requests are taken and completed in other guilds, or when they obtain materials. The guild staff all have to wear an accessory around their ears at all times, and that accessory is how they're communicating with other guilds.)
(That must be a very complicated accessory, to be able to communicate over long distances...)
(You may be right, Mimin. I've never seen one, so I don't know how it works exactly. The guild staff can talk and hear using the accessory.)
I want to get my hands on one of those accessories... It sounds fun to play with!
(That's just for communication. For transportation of materials, they use some sort of magic to transfer those materials from one guild to another. It seems to be a magic similar to storage magic, but instead of storing, it's transferring.)
(Transfer magic? That sounds convenient!)
(Well, storage magic is sort of like a variation of transfer magic, and we don't need it. Anyway, that's how the guilds are communicating and transferring stuff to one another.)
(I see.)
(Now we're going to talk about the adventurers. Adventurers are people who register with the guilds to earn more coins through completing requests.)
(Do they specialize in completing requests?)
(Well, not quite specialize. It's just that adventurers get a small bonus from completing requests. It's quite profitable since there's not many adventurers. However, they constantly take requests which they have to risk their lives to complete. That's why there's not many adventurers.)
(But, can't they just avoid those kinds of requests?)
(No. They have to take the dangerous requests and risk their lives. And they also have to take at least a certain amount of requests every month. That's part of the conditions for registering as an adventurer.)
Wow... That's kinda harsh, isn't it? To earn a little bit more coins from requests they have to constantly risk their lives...
(Because of that, some adventurers end up taking some side jobs so they have another source of income. That way they only have to do the bare minimum requests for being an adventurer.)
(Doesn't that ruin the whole point of becoming an adventurer to earn more coins from requests, though?)
(That's what I'm about to mention next. There's actually some other benefits to becoming an adventurer.)
Eh~? This whole system is... Why do they have to do things in such a weird way?
(It's actually nothing that significant, but it's somewhat helpful. When you register as an adventurer, you get a special card. The card keeps information in it, such as name, age, date of registration, adventurer rank, number of requests completed, and the list of beasts killed. Did you understand all of that?)
(Yes...)
(An adventurer can get the information in the card updated by passing it to the guild staff. They will update the information accordingly.)
(How does the list of beasts killed work?)
(For the list of beasts killed, the adventurer has to present some sort of proof to confirm it. For example, the parts or materials of the beasts. The amount killed will then be updated by the guild staff.)
(But that means other people can just give the adventurer the parts or materials without the adventurer actually contributing to anything, right?)
(Well... Yes. You're right, Mimin.)
(Eh!? Isn't that a huge problem!? The information may or may not be false... There's going to be so many trust issues...)
(That's where the adventurer rank comes in. It's a sort of grade to represent the capabilities of the adventurer. Rank 1 is the start, and the higher that number, the more capable the adventurer is. To get a rank up, the adventurer has to fight certain beasts under the supervision of guild staff. The results will then be decided after that.)
(...Still, that doesn't solve the issue of having false information in the card... It just helps with the trust issues a little bit.)
What is this weird system!? Who came up with this!? Why are the flaws obvious enough for a four year old child like me to notice!?
(Again, Mimin. This isn't something you need to concern yourself with. It's just stuff that you're learning about, just in case.)
Ah, fine, Fluffy. I'll stop worrying about everything...
(Back onto the topic about the card. It doesn't only store information, it also has some benefits attached to it. For example, cheaper fees for services at inns.)
(I see... So that's why adventurers still take side jobs and only complete minimum requests. They want to risk their lives as little as possible and still enjoy benefits.)
(You're learning things quickly, Mimin. Now that the whole guild thing is explained, we still have to talk about Sylvein, the other city in Librum. Let's take a quick break first.)
(Yes, Fluffy.)
I should stop thinking about the whole guild system. If I mind it, I'll lose.
----------
(Alright, let's continue. The lesson will be over once I explain about Sylvein.)
(Let's get this done and over with!)
(So, about Sylvein. The city is known throughout the whole of Phantasia as the city of silver. Surrounding the city is what seems to be multiple veins of silver, full of silver ore that seems to be endless no matter how much they're mined. Sylvein became known as the city of silver because of this endless amount of silver that can be made.)
(Silver...As in, the metal? I understand...)
It's still confusing to me sometimes, whether silver is referring to the metal or the colour.
(In Sylvein, there's plenty of jobs related to the production of silver, so the cost of living in that city is normal. That also means there should be even less adventurers there who don't take side jobs.)
(What do they do with all that silver?)
(Sometimes, there's people who sell it to the guild, or complete requests that ask for it. The main use for silver, however, is actually the production of silver magic stones.)
(Silver magic stones?)
(I think... That's about it for Sylvein. There's nothing much to say, other than that it's got an endless supply of silver ore. Everything else is normal for the city.)
I don't know what is considered normal, though? Well, it doesn't matter.
(About your question on magic stones. Magic stones are shaped like round gems, and the size of magic stones can vary. Magic stones are used as a container for storing magic, as it can absorb magic. It can also release the magic stored, and people can use the magic like it's their own.)
So, let's say someone has little or no magic left to use, the magic stone can be used as a supply of magic. I see...
(The amount of magic that can be stored by a magic stone is determined by their size and the metal used. Silver is one of the best metals to use for magic stones. It seems to have a high magic absorption rate and magic storage. It also has a high durability.)
(Durability?)
(That means how much magic the magic stone can absorb over it's entire usage before it breaks. Silver magic stones can be filled with magic for five times, before it breaks. That means, when you try to fill a silver magic stone with magic for the sixth time, it'll break.)
(I see...)
(That's the lesson for today. I don't think I missed out on anything, but if I remember something, I'll let you know. Is that fine, Mimin?)
(Yes!)
And that, finally, concludes Fluffy's lesson about Librum.
