Metatron was watching the news about the massive incursion of Xeno alien species. Tears were running down his cheeks. "Oh, Keila, what have you done?" He said to himself. He had supported Keila's idea to take the appearance of Alicia White, and kill the Terran Council leaders. But Keila had never filled him in on the plan to open portals and let giant man-eating aliens attack Earth. Metatron watched imagery of dismembered corpses, and the images would always haunt his eyes. It wasn't the carnage itself that scared him the most. After all, the Terran Council's synthetic virus attack on Pamshal city on Mars a few years earlier had generated similar images. No, what terrified Metatron was that humanity was no longer on the top of the food chain.
Metatron worried about the future of humanity. When humans killed other humans, Metatron knew that our species would always survive. But with the carnage caused by this alien invasion, who knew what the future would hold?
Metatron tried contacting Keila via the Divine Technology, but there was only static. This didn't mean anything, as Earth and Eden were too far apart to establish a connection with the technology. Yet, to Metatron, it confirmed his fears, that Keila had died among the thousands of fatalities in Rashidium city.
Metatron looked at the calendar. He got up and visited the medical bay, where the frozen two-month embryo of his and Keila's future child was in suspended animation. What would he do, now that Keila was gone?
Metatron knew what he wanted, He had wanted to raise a family with Keila, but her fiery nature had stopped her from settling down. Metatron had loved Keila's passionate nature, although it was also what stopped them from having the future he dreamt of.
Metatron studied the vitals of the embryo, it was in suspended animation, and it hadn't changed since his last examination. According to the DNA scanner, the foetus had excellent A-grade genetics. Martin studied the simulation, based on the foetus DNA, showing how Sabina would look at different ages. She would look a lot like her mother, Keila, and this made Metatron miss her even more!
Metatron elevated himself from his state of self-pity. Keila was gone, but through her daughter, Sabina, she could live on. She had to live on, why else had he already given this small lump of genetic material a name? But Metatron didn't want to cultivate the foetus in a synthetic womb. He didn't want to create a copy of himself, so he needed a surrogate mother. There was a knock on the door and one of Metatron's Edenite employees, Melissa, entered the room.
Melissa gave Metatron a worried look and spoke to him:
- Master Metatron, you haven't eaten for two days? I am concerned about you.
Metatron tried to force a smile, but it failed, and his watery teary eyes exposed him:
- I am okay. But I am not feeling hungry.
Melissa:
- Come on now, Metatron. You have already admitted that you are human and not an angel. All humans need support from time to time. Let me be your pillar of support for once, as you been to me so many times before.
Metatron studied Melissa. She had a rather plain Edenite appearance, but her heart was pure as gold. As Melissa hadn't opted to have her Divine Technology "human" chip removed, he could see her every thought. Could he ask her to do what he wanted? He could command it, but Metatron didn't believe in forcing people unless it was necessary for the common good. It was vital for him to find a surrogate mother to give life to Sabina, but he couldn't justify it with the common good. Metatron decided that he could ask her for a favour and spoke up:
- There is something you could do for me, something far more important than fetching me lunch.
Melissa looked at him with a reassuring smile:
- Metatron, you don't need to be shy around me. Just tell me, and I will be happy to help.
Metatron:
- Thanks, Melissa. I am depressed because of Keila's death.
Melissa:
- Mistress Keila is dead? That's terrible! Are you certain?
Metatron:
- I am as sure as I can be.
- But that is where you come in. I want you to give birth to mine and Keila's daughter.
Melissa:
- But she is dead? How can one woman bear another woman's child?
Metatron:
- I can explain the science to you later. Is it something that would interest you?
Melissa:
- It would honour me to carry the child of you and Keila, who will be the Messiah of our people.
Metatron:
- Thank you, Melissa.
- Stay here in the medical bay, and I'll explain the procedure more in detail before we go through with it.
Having said this, Metatron gave Melissa a scientific explanation of the procedure. Melissa, being an Edenite, didn't understand science, but it didn't matter, and soon she was pregnant with Metatron's and Keila's child.
