This was the fifth time that McKenna Foster has had to move because of her father. He could never keep a job longer than two years. It's was so annoying! After the first three times she had promised herself that she would never become attached to a place.
Daybury didn't seem very special. It was a beautiful place yes, but nothing happened. The people were boring. The town was boring. Squat gray buildings with narrow alleys in between them. The land itself was even boring! Just flat land throughout the entire town.
Newland High was a ring of buildings with a courtyard in the middle. And there was a different building for the gym. First day of the second semester was in two months. That's when she's start. She'd have to go to a new school socialize with new people and start a new life. Just to get it ripped away from her.
"McKenna! Do you wanna go shopping for some new clothes?", mom yelled time her upstairs.
"Sure! I'll be ready in five!", she called back.
She looked into her mirror. She wore an old Rolling Stones shirt from the 90's. A jean jacket over it. And ripped jeans. She had on some light brown eyeshadow on and lip gloss and mascara. She wore her shirt wavy reddish brown hair down. She slipped into her shoes and went downstairs.
At the store she grabbed some jeans and stuff. Her mom was the one who loved shopping not her. But she loved making mom happy. She knew that mom hated moving so much.
"Honey I have something to tell you.", mom purses her lips tightly looking down at a pink shirt.
"What's up?", McKenna asked.
" I'm going to leave your father. And I want you to stay with him.", she still wouldn't look up.
"What?!", she was shocked. She knew that her parents had had their problems but still, "does dad know?"
"He knows that I'm unhappy. I'm not sure if he knows that I'm leaving. I'm taking the train out tonight.", she pulled out a piece of paper and the car keys. "Take these. This has my new places number on it. You call me alright?", she said smiling. As if she hadn't just dropped a bomb on her daughter.
"No not alright. Mom you can't just leave me.", she tried to give the keys back.
"Baby I know how hard this'll be for you to understand but I've lost feelings for your father. You know when you love someone. We got married because of you. And I love you so much. But I need to try finding a man that I really truly love.", she gave McKenna a look that said 'this will be good for us. I promise'.
"Fine. But why can't I come with you?", she said.
"Because honey he's gonna keep this job and he'll be able to support you and he'll be in one place. I'm gonna be moving around. Travel because I want to not because of your fathers work. To fun places not tiny towns.", she grabbed her hand, "he'll be able to take care of you."
She pulled her into a hug, "now take care my baby and be safe."
And just like that her mother had walked out of her life.
