There was once a cat who roamed the streets every day, lost to where it should have been. It ventured the alley right across the boulevard's square sitting on a wooden bench near the fountain's shrine, where my job was supposed to be. Golden white furs embodied the tiny animal's body enrapturing the souls who were passing by. It was more like a fox rather than the neighbourhood's cat, still liable from the sight which I can perceive and it took as its own. I, for one, is included in the majority the majority to look straight up to the cat and caress my hands unto her silky snow figure.
But today was different. Unfortunately, the cat who was, and should be found, lying on the same bench was gone. With uneasiness inside my head, I began walking away.
Days turned into weeks and weeks became months. The cat who had stayed for almost a couple of years had been hiding from the eyes who appreciated her time. But when I went north, a different path which I lurked on, different from the building where I work and I saw it
The cat that drove us crazy. It was the same cat found on the plaza yet different. It was a sight yet to behold. Amazed and doubtful that my eyes had deceived me, I found the soulless animal lying across a dark alley room. Beside her was… a reaper of some sort. A hooded man painted jet-black, eyes nowhere to be seen from the unique robes which covered neatly all over his body stood upfront, staring at the animal. Noticing that someone had been stealing glances on the other side, he turns around and meets the gaze between my eyes. Sharp, locked like a mother mourning for her loss. He shifted his gaze unto the inanimate cat, turns around and vanishes; nowhere to be seen.
A week had passed since then, still unable to stomach the event which had occurred right across the streets. Every now and then I found myself visiting the bench which the cat had once stood and the dark alleys with her lifeless body. Truth be told, I never once thought of the cat as close to be called mine. It was simply….magnificent in a way to be lured by its unique design. Still waiting for the time the cat might appear right before my eyes. I held on to that foolish hope and awaited its return.
For two years had gone by and nothing particular had changed. Was the cat forgotten or it was a pleasant memory with unending ties beneath the string? Was I foolish enough to not understand its capability? If I had not ventured forth and tried to seek for help who was capable for it to gloom. Was I too late or was it fate that ended us there.
Inside the solemn night, I went back to bed hoping that the sun would rose up from the west.
But then again, I saw the cat once again. There she were, inside my dream, purring to say goodbye. Farewell, my dear friend.
It was not a simple neighbourhood cat. It was a cat that I could call mine.
