Chapter 4 - Prologue (4)

"What? You want that one?"

"Yep."

"No can do, let's get the most expensive one in the store."

Was there any point in telling me to pick if you were just going to pick one yourself? I wondered.

After that, Futaba-san pointed at the most expensive smartphone in the store and got it wrapped up. Leaving the store, Futaba-san apologized.

"Sorry, I really want to spend more time with you but I have work to do after this..."

She said so and left the house, leaving me behind.

Of course before she left, she put an envelope on the table. I didn't check how much was in it before, but now that I take a look at it, the envelope is extremely thick.

Just how much did she leave here? It's just a week's worth of living expenses right? Does she have no sense of money?

The rich people sure think differently huh.

I pull out a bundle of banknotes from the envelope. The total amount is a million Yen (~9000 usd). I wouldn't be able to spend it all even if I use it to order a special sushi delivery every day.

Before leaving, she told me that she didn't mind even if I spent it all. What now? Should I buy a R*lex watch or something?

After giving up those thoughts, I left the money lying around on the table. Since I was now Hatsume Haruhiro, I should try to improve my standing in the game.

Though it's no longer a game, now I am Hatsume Haruhiro who is living in a magical world. Hang on magic? Surely I can use ma, magic right?

But if I can't, then I wouldn't be enrolled in the academy in the first place, right? But back when it was a game, all I had to do was left click to use magic.

Now let me reintroduce Hatsume Haruhiro, I did say that he was a useless character before right? Saying this now won't really change the fact that he is useless, but he could use every type of magic in existence.

Now that may sound great, and like a cheat that only the protagonist has, but I'll tell you now that, that's not what you think.

Even though he could use every type of magic, his talent for emission type magic was terrifying. Yes, terrifyingly... horrible.

Even a baby who has just been born could probably do it better than him. Now, what is emission type magic you ask? Well, I was going to skip the explanation on magic since you should already know about it, but now that you've asked, guess I'll begin there.

Everything born into this world possessed magical power and there is also magical power lingering around in the surroundings.

Then, when you utilize those magic power a miracle occurs, Magic. You can produce fire, water, wind, earth and even metal with magic.

In order to perform such a miracle, a magician must have a certain amount of magic power. The difference between normal people and magician are their magic capacity. or so it seems.

Well, now to explain emission type magic. Spells such as [Fireball] or [Wind- Wall] that you see in RPG games are what you call emission types.

Now to compare Hatsume Haruhiro's talent with emission type magic. Let's say a regular person used the [Fireball] spell and created a ball about the size of a person's palm.

Well, Hatsume Haruhiro's [Fireball] would only be about the size of a piece of candy. Even if you were hit with it, you would barely feel it. Not only did it lack in terms of size, but it also lacked greatly in power.

Now how does a person perceive magic? Well, just like how eyes and ears perceive light and sound, it seems like the whole body has become a new sensory organ to perceive magic.

However, as you felt this mysterious warm power that overflows from the whole body, it seems that something similar also exists outside. The outside magic power softly touched me and it kinda felt ticklish.

Grabbing a book off the shelf called, 'Basic Magic that even monkeys could understand', I opened it and flipped to a random page.

In front of me, was a basic spell called [Light].

"Eeto, [Light]."

Whoosh!

It was a basic spell in which everyone could use, to put it simply, it was an illumination type spell.

Not being sure whether I could even use magic in the first place since I was not of this world, I was quite concerned since I didn't want to be kicked out of the magic academy.

Immediately after I cast the spell, its effect came into play.

There's a light ball floating in front of my eyes. I tried touching it with my hand but it only passes through the air. I also check whether there is some string-like electric wire attached to it but my hand felt nothing. Now, I try to bring my hand closer to the light.

"Hahaha, it's pretty amazing."

Even though I managed to use it, my magic felt kinda restrained. Rather, the movement of my magic didn't flow as smoothly as the book said. I wonder why?

But then again, since I could successfully use the spell, then I guess it's all fine right?

I stopped supplying magic power, as the spell instantly disappeared. When it did, I immediately cast [Light] again.

Whoosh!

Seeing the ball of light in my hand, I continuously cast the spell until I got bored with it.

While you may think that I'm being childish, as a person who has lived in a technological age with only electricity, of course, I would be excited.

For example, if someone from the stone age were to see fire for the first time, they would be excited as well wouldn't they?

Now back to the main topic, as I continuously cast the spell, I could feel my feelings toward magic becoming stronger. I was familiarizing myself more and more every time.

Even though I spammed the spell, the flow of my magic didn't change. It was like some sort of dirt was blocking it from flowing out completely and fluidly.

As my feelings became stronger, I began having a goal for myself. To become stronger, maybe even stronger than the protagonist, who will at some point solo the Demon King by himself.

He was such a cheat character, would I be able to become as strong as him in the first place?

After getting bored with it, I began reading other pages within the book and then explored other books that were related to magic.

Of course, the books were all in Japanese, which meant I had no trouble reading them.
