A week passed by blissfully, well almost. Jinjing did not give up contacting Liang, and he did not stop being passive. Jinjing was determined to work her way into his heart once again. She was just waiting for her notice period to finish and then she would run back into Liang's warm, strong and secure embrace. This thought kept her going. She was ticking days off the calendar.
Liang on the other hand, had resumed his work at the office. Even though he had started working way before he even got discharged, some crucial matters were postponed till his return. And now he was neck deep in work. The frequency of their conversations had reduced for the past few days.
And this worsened when, the detective called in.
"Hello detective Lui. How have you been? How is the case progressing?"
It had been two weeks since Liang had asked him to investigate the involvement of the Mu family. Now he had all the details.
"President Sheng, you were right. The Mu family is involved in your accident."
"Who is it?" Liang knew he was right. He wanted to confirm his suspicion of the culprit. He felt that Jiaying would not be able to do all this without any help and he was once again right.
"It is Mr. Mu. He messaged the truck driver using a private number, which was registered in the name of his own driver. We had to ask the telecom company for in depth details. When the name of the SIM card owner was revealed, we tracked him down, in a different city" The detective explained.
"It was nearly impossible for a common man to get a private number. So we interrogated him. He initially denied, but we traced the bank account through which her received money. It traced back to an offshore account. We had to involve the higher authorities to get the details. The account belongs to Mrs. Mu."
Liang silently listened to every detail, swiveling his big black office chair and rolling the paper weight on the table. The light shuffling sounds coming from the background assured the detective that the call did not get disconnected. Taking it as a sign to continue, he narrated the remaining story.
"the driver has confessed that he received money from Mr. Mu and he was the one to leave the truck driver's share in the abandoned factory. With the amount he received from Mr. Mu, he left city B and went back to his ancestral village."
Out of breath, detective Lui sipped some water and went on. "the driver planned to blackmail Mr. Mu when he would run out of money. Hence, he saved the text messages they exchanged during the deal. Also the overseas bank has provided an attested statement of the account. We also have evidence from the telecom company to back up. We can easily press charges on Mr. Mu."
There was a long pause on the call, the detective was done, well almost. He had another piece of information, which he was contemplating whether to tell Liang or no.
"Detective Lui, if these evidences are sufficient for the bastard to rot in jail for his entire life, I would like you to go ahead with the due judicial process. My team of lawyers will get in touch with you. Thank…" he was interrupted by the detective. "President Sheng…." he hesitated.
"what's the matter?" Liang asked. His deep voice sounded as if it came from hell.
"President Sheng, there is one more thing that the driver revealed."
"and what is that?" Liang was running out of patience.
