Everyone trained their sight on Liang, who was blankly staring at the ceiling. At regular intervals, he would look around the room and the people present. Jinjing was still sitting on the edge of his bed, with his hand still in hers.
The nurse on duty, moved towards Jinjing and taking Liang's hand out from Jinjing's she requested, "excuse me miss… I need to take this out." Pointing at the intravenous. Jinjing nodded. She stood up and moved away from the bed, giving space to the nurse to carry out her duty.
Unconsciously, Jinjing was pushed further to the back. Once the nurse was done, the Sheng family members crowded close to Liang and Jinjing could only stand where she was. She did not want to shove her way forward. She was happy by just looking at Liang from afar. He was fine and healthy, that's what mattered the most.
When mother Sheng went close to Liang, he turned his gaze to her and moved his lips as if trying to say something. Mother Sheng was delighted seeing his attempt. She immediately ordered "Meili! give your brother some water." Meili quickly took water from the table beside and fed it to Liang with the help of a straw.
After his parched throat was moistened, Liang once again looked at his mother and in a hoarse voice said, "Ma!" his single syllable made Mrs. Sheng immensely happy. She was thrown back in time to when Liang was little and called her 'Ma' for the first time. Tears of joy streamed down freely. Holding onto her son's hand, Mother Sheng repeatedly kissed it.
"Son you don't know how delighted I am right now. You had me worried. I can't thank God enough." She pressed her lips to the back of his hands and stayed there for a while.
Wiping her mother's tears, Meili said, "Ma! Everything is fine now…. Why are you thinking about the bad things? Anyway, you should save some tears for when you give me away." Pouting she continued, "I know your son is your favorite... hmmp." She pretended to be upset.
Father Sheng pulled his daughter into his arms and petting her gently said, "my princess is dad's little girl…... right?" hearing the endearment, Meili happily hugged her father's waist and rested her head on his chest.
Holding Meili securely in his arms, father Sheng asked Liang, "how are you feeling son?" Liang nodded and huskily said, "fine Pa!".
It was Buzz's turn, he lightly punched Liang on his uninjured shoulder and asked, "how are you dude? You scared the living hell outta us." Pretending to be in pain, Liang replied, "dude watch out…." And then flashed a brotherly smile at his childhood friend.
Everyone was elated with Liang's progress. Now the little fear that they had, faded away when Liang started speaking to them.
Suddenly, Meili noticed that Liang's line of sight was direct behind her. She turned and gasped, "ahhh….!!!! Why are you standing like a statue there? You should make your own way up here. Everybody is busy getting themselves recognized here." Pulling her bestie by her hand, Meili made Jinjing stand very close to Liang's bed. Hugging her from behind, she placed her chin on Jinjing's shoulder and playfully said, "get yourself verified…." And looked intently at her brother.
Jinjing held her breath in anticipation and so did everyone around. They were waiting to see his over the top reaction. His love was right before him after such a long time.
Contrary to their prediction, Liang did not speak nor did he have any dramatic change of expression. In fact, he furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Jinjing with a questioning gaze.
Seeing his gaze, Jinjing felt her knees give away.
