City B.
Papa Lee arrived at city B in the early hours of Monday. He hurriedly made his way to his house to freshen up before heading to office. Having worked for Mr. Sheng for all these years, he was aware that Mr. Sheng would not come to work until Madam Sheng is discharged from the hospital. Now he had to step up and guide Liang.
Being a sensible man, Papa Lee decided not to interfere in the matters of the young ones. He was confident that, his daughter was mature enough to figure out what's good for her. Hence, he did not hold any ill feelings towards Liang. In fact, he always saw Liang as a well mannered, composed person.
The moment he neared his house, he saw a car parked just outside. It was still a little dark and he could not figure out the person in the car. Papa Lee parked his car in the garage and intended to check on the driver of the other car. Before he could do that, he saw a tall silhouette approach him. On closer look, he recognized the person to be Liang.
Papa Lee was not oblivious to the purpose of Liang's visit to his house.
"Good morning uncle Lee." Liang greeted papa Lee in a hoarse voice with guilt apparent on his face. He appeared to look tired with dark circles, stubble and crumpled clothes, as if he did not slept for days.
"Good morning young master Sheng" papa Lee maintained his formal tone. "How is Madam Sheng doing now? I hope she is well."
He further inquired.
"She is fine. She underwent a surgery and is recovering well." Liang replied.
There was an awkward silence before Liang mustered courage and asked the obvious.
"Uncle i am looking for Jinjing." Pausing for a bit when he did not receive a reply, Liang continued " i have been trying to call her, it's off. Please i want to meet her." Liang desperately pleaded trying to hold back his tears.
"But she doesn't want to meet you." Papa Lee did not mix his words.
He had seen the change in his beloved daughter, even though she appeared jovial, he knew she was struggling silently.
When he was leaving for city B, Jinjing had made him promise to not anyone, anyone at all know that, she moved to city S and papa Lee was a man of his words.
"I will see you at work young master." Saying so, papa Lee made his way into his house.
Not giving up, Liang charged in, the moment the door was opened. He ran frantically throughout the house looking for and calling out to Jinjing. Searching, he chanced upon her room. Barging in, he looked high and low but to now avail.
Absolutely defeated, he sat on her bed holding the edge and rocking to and fro. His gaze landed on her pillow. He instantaneously grabbed the pillow and hugged it, sniffing, it smelled of her. That was it, all the unshed tears made their way out and rolled down his face.
Papa Lee stood at the door watching this heartbreaking scene. He felt for him but he loved his daughter more and he would honor his promise.
When it was time to leave for work, papa Lee helped Liang settle in his car and asked him to drive home safely.
