Helmand did not have as many homes around the province, or at least near to where Farhad was hiding.
The province used to be the most active war zone between the Taliban and the US and British army, but after the peace talks, the fighting had tamed. Some locals had begun to farm again and inhabited the place.
As for Farhad's estate, it was practically concealed between mountain ranges, a perfect hiding place for his drug business.
