Chereads / SLITHERING MY WAY TO HEAVENS / Chapter 5 - The Frog by The Lake

Chapter 5 - The Frog by The Lake

As I woke up, I could feel the air blowing through my sensors. I looked around and all I could see was greenery, with the light sound of leaves being rustled up by the light breeze.

Raising my head, from the ground I felt something. It was a feeling of being watched by someone; I don't know who, but I could feel something watching me, not from a single view but it could watch me from all directions simultaneously.

Blowing it off, as a side effect of Tristar World, I made myself ignore it and then started moving.

'Mother, at least you should have had let me, drink some water. Damn it, now where do I quench my thirst? Maybe eating some wild animals might help. Oh wait, there aren't any wild animals here, and I too am a wild animal right now."

'Mmm, what should I do?'

'Let's just out of here first.'

Then I dragged myself on the forest floor. Moving swiftly in the forest, I suddenly smelled increase in amount of moisture in the air. I sped up towards that direction and found myself in front of a huge lake which almost seemed as if it was a sea. If not for the large trees all around it, I really would have taken it as a sea.

Throwing caution to the wind, I leapt into the water. And after quenching the thirst I was in a dilemma.

'How the fuck do I get out of the water?'

I was rolling and waving my body, trying to propel myself towards the shore, but I couldn't.

After going at it for a few minutes, I calmed myself, and let myself sink deeper and then waved my tail which propelled me. I repeated this a few times and finally I was back on land.

"Never doing that again." I squeaked in a hissing tone.

"And why, couldn't I just propel myself out with even my stats?"

"Eh, boy. That's coz you're stats aren't enough to make for the little density that water. You left alive after carelessly jumping in there, is enough to tell tales."

"Whaa-- Who is this?"

I almost flinched, I couldn't even feel this being. If it wanted to kill me, it would have done so. Highetening up my senses, I tried to locate him.

"Easy boy, easy. I am not trying to harm you, am I?"

"And, why should I believe what you say?" Calming myself, I asked.

"You do or you don't. I don't care, anyways this is my territory and if I killed you, others will speak badly of me, thinking I just killed a newborn. By the way, I am leaving you, that doesn't mean others will leave you alive as well. Don't go roaming into other's lands. Didn't your mother tell you that?"

'So, territory guy? He must be the frog by Seesame lake.'

"Senior, I am sorry for my intrusion into your lands, but I was too thirsty to think for the consequences."

"Senior? Yeah, I am a senior... what? You drank that?"

"Should I not?"

"I mean, I can but you can't."

"I know this is your place senior, you don't have to be like that."

"No, no, I don't mean it like that, I mean... if a juvenile drinks from that they die with explosion."

"Wait! The fuck? I will explode ?"

"Well, if you didn't by now... I don't think you will. It happens just after a few seconds."

"No, no, I am feeling some warmth inside me."

"Don't panic child, let me help you."

A huge mountain like shadow flashed from somewhere, ending up in front of me. After, what I saw in front of me, scared me quite a bit.

A huge frog, with a mouth as large as it's width and scales covering, all of it's body. It shot it's tongue towards me, catching me softly and in a flash I was in front of it. It looked at my body. Touching me with it's fingers, it assessed.

"Interesting. You've already evolved once, haven't you?"

"Yes, I have. How is it senior?" I tried to hold it on as 'senior', as the frog liked being called senior.

"You don't have to worry. Your body is just trying to assimilate the spirit water."

"Spirit water?"

"Yes, this lake is a reservoir of spirit water. Didn't your guardian tell you that?"

"I don't think she even mentioned a lake, around here."

"Oh... you seem like 'her' child. Did she tell you to come look for me?"

"No no.. though she told me about your existence, she didn't tell me to look for you."

"Mmm. Since, she told you about me she must want you to meet me."

"After 'that' day, she doesn't do anything without a motive. You're her champion I guess?"

"I don't know what you mean by that, senior. What's 'that day'?"

"Ohk, come with me."

'Are you even listening, you frog?"

"Yes, senior."

Unlike what I expected, he didn't jump. He just hovered a few inches above the ground and started floating, towards the forest.

'Why do I have a creepy feeling?'

But I didn't dare run away and it's not like I could 'run' anways. So, I just followed him.
