"Charmaine Song, I don't care about what you think. Just sign this divorce papers and get the hell out of my life."
Charmaine stared at the man who barged in her hotel room and interrupted her breakfast. His cold expression stabbed her heart multiple times in the past but today, it felt as if her whole body had turned numb. That face, that handsome face who was currently looking at her with disgust, she hopes to engrave this image of his in her mind and keep it til her next life. This was the man she married. This was the man she loved all her life: also the biggest mistake she ever did. He never loved her all these years. He only married her to get his inheritance. Such a cruel fate she had.
Charmaine lowered her head and glanced at the papers Leo threw on the table. The divorce papers.... Yes, maybe it's about time to end this all.
"Lucia, please help me get rid of the food. I'm not hungry anymore." she said.
A young woman who was watching from a distance hurriedly complied when she heard Charmaine's orders. She tried not to look at her pitiful madam who she knew has been enduring so much. Who would have known... such a young, beautiful and wealthy woman has such a heartless husband. He would rather believe some gossips than listen to his wife.
Reaching for those pieces of papers, Charmaine Song snickered. "At last, my well deserved freedom." she uttered before picking up the pen and signing the divorce agreement. Leo furrowed his brows as he watch her scribble her signature on the white paper. The bitter smile on her face felt ominous.
"About the alimony..." Leo started to say something but Charmaine cut his words.
"There's no need for any." she said. "All I need is my freedom... from all of these." She just want to rest now. The way he treated her all this years have left her emotionally battered. How he drove her out of their house after a huge argument and how she landed to the state she was in, she blames it all to him. "You can go now. I'm very tired and I want to rest now." she said before standing up from her seat and walking towards the balcony.
Leo turned around to leave. With heavy feet, he stopped before the door and glanced at Charmaine one last time. She was there standing behind the curtain covering the balcony door, looking up at the sky. This will be his last memory of her.
Charmaine Song close her eyes. She realized she wasn't herself anymore. She wasn't the cheerful young girl she was before. She's now like an empty shell with nothing to boast. Her life was meaningless.
Looking down from the balcony, she started climbing the railings. It might be a moment of insanity but she just wants to end it all. In her next life, she didn't want to meet Leo anymore.
"I hate you Leo..." she mumbled before jumping off to her death from the sixty-fourth floor...
***
Charmaine opened her eyes with her heart racing. What happened? She's still alive?
She looked around the room and realized she was in a hospital room. On her face was an oxygen mask and on her right arm was a needle attached to an IV drip. She also feels something pinching her index finger. Some stuffs was also stuck to her head as if she was in an ICU.... or was she?
Looking around her, it looks like she survived the fall, but how could that be? That was really incredible! And she can also feel her limbs! Didn't she suffer from any broken bones? That was the sixty fourth floor of the Majestic Hotel! Was it a miracle?
Charmaine closed her eyes for a moment. Although she can feel her limbs, her body still feels heavy. Maybe she still needs her rest. But what to do now? How would she face her life once more? She already gave up on it!
When Charmaine woke up again after some unknown amount of time, the nurse who just walked-in started running away. When she came back, more than a couple of people was accompanying her. Two doctors and two nurses. 'Why does it feel like she've seen this scene before?'
"Miss Song, can you hear me?" a male doctor asked after removing her oxygen mask. Charmaine only nodded her head a bit in reply. She watched as the doctor perform several check ups on her.
"Alright. Try not to move a lot. Do you remember your name? How old are you? What was your last memory of your accident?" the female doctor asked assessing her mental state.
"Charmaine Song." she uttered with difficulty. Her husky voice could barely be heard. "I'm twenty five..... I fell from the balcony of.... my hotel."
The two doctors suddenly changed their expression. They exchanged look and the female doctor started writing down something on her clipboard. They talked for a while before the male doctor left with a nurse.
Charmaine watched as the lady doctor gave the remaining nurse some instructions before sending her away. After that, the doctor approached her and held her hand and gently squeezed it. She smiled and told her something unbelievable.
"Miss Song, I can see that you're still disoriented." she remarked."It's alright. It's pretty normal considering you were in a coma for two months. But let me tell you the truth. You're Charmaine Song but you're not twenty-five. You're only seventeen. And you didn't fall from a balcony, you had a car accident."
Charmaine stared dazedly at the doctor. This doctor.... she looked very familiar. Her voice sounded familiar too. Where have she seen her before?
"Miss Song, are you listening to me?" the doctor asked when she noticed her patient dazedly staring at her.
"Yes!" she said. She finally remembered her."You're Miss Kent!" she blurted out. "We.... met before.... when I was seventeen!"
Dr. Kent stared at Charmaine Song with furrowed brows. In her perspective, her patient's mental health seemed to have been severely affected by the car crash. She wondered if it's just temporary.
"Miss Song, listen... the date today is June 5 20xx... You were in a car accident and you were in a coma for two months.... You...are only seventeen." the doctor carefully explained.
Charmaine stared at Dr. Kent without blinking. She's only seventeen? Was it a prank? She... went back in time? No.... how could that be. But if this is the reality, is the eight years she experienced before waking up just an elaborate dream?
