Chapter 22 - To Marry Luna Jiang

Hero left the marketing department, ignoring the curious look he received from the other employees. He was satisfied at least, that he could see Luna anytime he wanted without a question.

She thought she could get away from him? Impossible. Not when he's the owner of the company she's working in.

She spoke as if he didn't have a choice but to let her go. That she didn't care who he was. But Hero knew that in time and with a little patience, he could make her his in every sense. He had been fully aware that she was somewhat attracted to him when she looked back at him with defiance.

Hero had known by then that, given time and the right strategy, he could have Luna. He had let her go home that morning, but that didn't mean he didn't plot a course of action that would eventually win him his goal.

But events had intervened before he could make a move. It made it easier for him that Luna was working in one of his companies. He found it interesting but somewhat disconcerting. Obviously, Luna wasn't the one who could be easily swayed by his charm. He needed something that could make her notice him.

He went back to his office, removed his necktie, and threw it on his table. Aggressive approach surely wouldn't work on her. He leaned on his desk and looked outside of his full-sized window. Luna was such a good distraction for him.

His intercom beeped, letting him know he had a visitor.

"President Li, your sister, Joanna, is here. Shall I tell her you're busy?"

"No. Let her in. She'll only return again later if you drive her away."

"I'll send her in then." The intercom disconnected.

He knew why his sister came after him. No doubt this was about his daughter, Amber. Amber had been a sickly child ever since she was born. When his wife died after giving birth to Amber, Hero was at a loss. He had never experienced raising a child. It occurred to him that the distance between him and Amber was all his fault. He'd let the child do whatever she wanted and leave her to his siblings to take care of.

The door of his office opened a few minutes later. Dressed in a stylish cream dress with matching cream high-heeled stilettos, Joanna Li walked into the room. Her discreetly straight hair was pinned in a low and sleek ponytail. Her side fringe perfectly framed and highlighted her brown eyes and feminine features.

Joanna was twenty-seven now, seven years younger than him. She had been a stunning woman ever since adolescence hit her, but she looked better when she was younger. Her face developed some charismatic character over the years.

"Hero."

"What's up, Joanna?"

She frowned in annoyance as she walked and sat on the chair across his desk. Hero wasn't concerned about her expression. Joanna frequently looked annoyed whenever she paid him a visit. He understood her feelings perfectly, and he couldn't blame her for it.

"You are still here? I thought we had an agreement that you'll visit Amber at the hospital?" Joanna pushed a stray lock of her hair away from her face. The silver pendant on her neck, which was given by their mother, gleamed above her chest.

"Didn't you say she will come home tomorrow? What's the point of visiting her now if she's going home later?" Hero examined the new files that Daryl left on his table.

"The least you could have done for your daughter is to pay her a visit. Is it really hard for you to make time for her? Don't you care what happens to her?"

"Of course, I do. She's my child regardless if I could be a father to her or not."

"And you choose to ignore that problem. I don't know, Hero. I'm telling you I cannot look after your kid forever." Her eyes were filled with bitterness. She'd sacrificed a lot of time to help Hero, and she wanted to do something for herself now.

"I'm aware of that." Hero paused, "I'm considering to get married soon."

Joanna's mouth tightened as if she was expecting Hero to say it.

"Was there something you wanted to ask?"

"Daryl said you're interested in a woman you just met recently. I do hope you aren't planning to marry Veronica. I don't like how she treats Amber. It's like your child is a nuisance to her."

"Who said I'm planning to marry that woman? She isn't the one I wanted to marry."

Of course, the one he had on mind was none other than the elusive Luna Jiang.
