Eon's POV
He was desperate. Months of no contact. Just glances across the room.
Had she forgotten about him? He was stuck listening to the attempts of the other boys trying to pull pranks on the girls.
They quickly learned that Rielen was off limits in the first few months of Eon's arrival. They teased him at first for liking a girl.
He didn't care. He was not one to go back on his decisions, and he had long decided before all this nonsense that he would marry her.
He thought he could surely request an audience with her. Maybe if it was chaperoned, they would allow it.
Instead, he was met with spears at his throat, and him on his knees, pathetic.
She called his name before he was dragged away and pulled in front of the headmaster Grend.
"You have really done it this time," Grend growled.
"The King has ordered additional guards to the East Wing because of the stunt you pulled today. Why can't you be like the other boys and keep your distance?"
After being thoroughly re-lectured on the rules of the school, Eon reluctantly returned to his classes.
Rielen's POV
Word had spread among the girls at her attempted visitor.
"What connection do you have with that boy?" they asked her.
She just shook her head and looked pointedly at the attendants standing at the wall.
Security had increased two-fold around the girls. They were never left alone.
Rielen could not even breach the subject with her instructors. They acted like they didn't even hear the question.
Rielen was frustrated. It was one thing they uprooted their lives, and now they wouldn't even justify why she couldn't have one conversation.
Hyla never left her alone anymore. They even had her sleeping in Rielen's room in case something happened in the middle of the night. Rielen liked to be alone.
To be constantly watched got under her skin. She couldn't handle the eyes on her. Like they were expecting her to fall. To fail.
All she could do was bury herself in the countless and endless books that made up her studies.
She couldn't help but go over countless scenarios of what could have possibly happened to make the King so conscious of contact between the two genders.
The next day, Rielen found out that they would no longer be attending lunch and dinner with the boys. The East Wing became like a prison.
She didn't think that she would miss the overbearing meals with the boys.
However, she had grown accustomed to meeting Eon's gaze when she thought no one was looking.
Rielen cried into her pillow quietly to not disturb Hyla. Another escape attempt was foiled earlier.
She just wanted to be alone, a simple convenience she was no longer afforded. She just wanted to see his face.
She was starved for the littlest contact with the one she loved. Hyla noticed her depression, and would bring her sweets, or non-magical texts, to read.
It was kind of her, but nothing could fill the void Rielen was feeling in her heart.
Eon's POV
The stunt he had pulled had backfired drastically. They even went as far as to have them dine separately from the boys altogether.
This only fueled the rage he was slowly building up inside. Combat practice was brutal for whoever was paired with him.
They eventually had to start bringing in actual soldiers to spar with him, because he had broken too many students' bones.
The instructors had nothing but praises for him. Eon hated them. They were blocking him from his objective. He had had enough.
A blast of blue flames sprung out from his body. His opponent went flying into the safety wall.
He was suddenly doused with water, and glared at the boy, who dared to catch his attention.
"You know, if you keep glaring at me like that, you are gonna get permanent lines on your forehead." Tam, a boy a year younger than Eon, laughingly said to him.
"You sure sound like you want to be my next target." Eon threatened.
"It's about that girl you tried to see a few months back, isn't it?" Tam said he already knew the answer.
Eon only grunted as he joined a row of other boys doing drills with a practice glaive. Tam fell into line beside him with a smirk on his face.
Rielen's POV
Rielen had been given access to the library of the palace due to her great achievements with her studies.
She pored over every book she could get her hands on. In reality, she was searching for anything that could help her come into contact with Eon.
She couldn't explain the need she had to see him. It was almost unnatural, the pull she felt toward him.
She shook her head and concentrated on the latest book to find itself in her room from the library.
Hyla was doing some mending across the room, seeming like she was in her own little zone.
It looked that way, but if Rielen dared make any unnatural movements, Hyla's eyes would immediately be on her.
It was as if she was silently warning her. No funny business.
Rielen frowned. How is it, out of the hundred of books she had read, that there was nothing on long distance communication or teleportation?
She knew that this kind of magic existed. Her basic magic instructor had talked about it before.
Rielen pulled out her notebook for that class. Just a brief mention. Were they keeping the good books away from her?
She had noticed that there were a lot of books missing from the shelves of the library.
She just assumed other people were reading them. Now she wondered if they had been removed for a reason.
She scratched at her head and sighed. What were they accomplishing by limiting the contact between the girls and boys?
