Chapter 1 - GURUKUL

Gurukuls were the solution to a lot of our problems.

December 6, 2019

The analysis of the data from surveys conducted by British collectors in Bengal, Bombay, and Madras proves that the Indigenous Education system (Gurukuls) was better than the English in terms of

(1) the numbers of schools and colleges proportionately to the population.

(2) the number of students attending these institutions.

(3) the duration of time spent in school by the students.

(4) the quality of teachers.

(5) the diligence as well as the intelligence of the students.

(6) the financial support needed to see the students through school and college.

(7) the high percentage of lower class( Sudra and other castes) students attending these schools as compared to the so-called upper class (Brahmin, Kshatriya, and Vaisya) students.

(8)in terms of subjects.

Our Indigenous Education system was extraordinarily effective and highly decentralized. However, it was irrelevant to the goals of British collectors. So, their administration created an education system that was highly centralized and increased the revenues which upgraded the conditions of the so-called upper class and degraded the conditions of the lower class.

As a result, it generated a society that patronized the upper class and despises the lower class. This deadly sea of British education system started corroding the soul of our culture and corrupted our social structure and it is still serving in the same process.

We have forgotten our traditional and moral values which have been taught to us in Gurukuls. The way of living, the ways of self-understanding, following that different subject has been taught there.

Now, we have become a society of criminals freely roaming around, we have unethical people in our surroundings, we have people who do not respect women, we deceit people, we lie even to our loved ones, we have no one to look up to and thus we are a depressed generation.

We have people shouting on the internet about different issues who themselves are not applying any of the ethics into their life.

A lot of our problems would have been solved if we had ever focused on our Indigenous Education system once again. Truly!
