I was walking back to the inn. This town is full of so many busy people, it makes me want to slow down sometimes.
It's been a while since I read a good book…
I was lost in a trance, looking into the orange sky when suddenly an impact sent me rolling on my back. The only thing I'm feeling right now is pain.
Ouucchhh. What the hell?
It seems someone just tackled me from behind. I was so lost in thought that I didn't even see it coming.
"Ohh hey there sourpuss!"
An annoying voice chirped through the air. It was the Wooly girl and her fan club.
"What's the big deal!? Why did you attack me?"
There's probably a giant blood vessel sticking out of my forehead right about now.
"Me? I'd never do such a thing. Would I Dev?"
Grace asked the guy next to her in a grandiose fashion. He smirked in a creepy mischievous type way.
Frankly, I got the chills. These two are a match made in the depths of hell alright.
So anyways, I dusted myself off and went to carry on about my way when her voice stopped me again.
"Wait a second. Where do you think you're going? I'm not done talking to you brat."
At this moment something in me just snapped. I ran up to her ready to tear her head off.
"Brat!? Who's the brat!? If anyone is a brat around here it's you."
"What the hell did you just say to me!? I'll have you know that my dad owns all of these markets on this street.
My family is extremely successful so you should show me some respect."
She talks in this grandiose type way like she's putting on some dramatic show or something.
"I could never respect a brat like you. Besides, what the hell does your families business have to do with anything?"
"Everything!!! You think I don't want to take over that business?
My parents are elderly, they've worked hard their whole lives and have this much to show for it!
It's time for them to retire don't you say."
Ohhhhh so that's what this is about then? Is she actually getting teary eyed?
It kinda makes me feel like maybe this wacko does have a heart deep down somewhere.
Maybe…
"I mean, just one night of those profits and I can buy so much stuff! Shoes, jewelry, anything I want!
There's just one problem…
You.
I don't know why they trusted you enough to pass their whole business to you. It seems I'm the only one who sees you for what you really are.
A snake in the grass. I'm on to you little snake."
"You got the wrong idea you know.
I didn't ask for them to leave those stores to me, I was just as surprised as you when they told me about it.
Honestly, I don't even want any part in it. This is none of my business, I just wanted to help where I could.
I find it sad that they are that disappointed in their own kids that they'd even consider handing their life's work over to a stranger like me instead."
"Yeah? Well it's not like it matters anyways, I always get what I want."
"Huh? Were you even listening there?"
"Oh yeah that reminds me, where did your ugly little pet thing go I wonder?"
Right as soon as she said that I realized that Poe wasn't on my shoulder anymore.
Where did he go? I must have lost him when I fell…
Wait a second.
"What did you do with him!?"
"Oh you think I took that disgusting abomination away from you? Like I said earlier, I would never do anything like that.
Hmmm…
But I might know someone who would do it for me though."
With a snap of her fingers, Grace smiled wickedly before pointing up.
There he was, dangling off the edge of a 10 story building. Those bastards took Poe.
Whoever attacked me earlier must have taken him up there while I was distracted by ol' buttercup here.
"You see, you're going to sign your rights to the buisness over to me. And if you don't, then you'll be next."
"NEXT FOR WHAT!?!?"
That was when Grace used her finger and her thumb to whistle. Her whistle was a signal to the guy on the roof.
The next moment was one of the most tragic moments of my life.
I tried my hardest, my power wasn't enough. I wasn't fast enough. I wasn't strong enough to save Poe.
I collapsed to the dirt. My throat felt as though it was ripping apart.
For a while I could hear something, it took some time to come to the realization that I was screaming out in despair.
I lost my only friend in the world.
Everything started crackling and busting in my surroundings. A deep red aura filled the air around me and something sharp emerged from my head.
Horns?
I just grew horns from my head.
So then does this mean I'm not a human anymore?
"Eyyyaahhhhh I'm sorry okay !? III-I-I I had no idea you were a demon."
"You think I'll let you get away with this!? You're a murderer!"
"Nooo no I didn't do anything..."
Grace fell to the ground after her trusted friend Dev knocked her over. He was running away from me and Grace looks like she's terrified to look at me all of a sudden.
"This is your plan!? You thought this was okay?!!"
The ground started to shake and the force of my power was overwhelming the Wooly girl to her core.
A hand was placed on my shoulder, I looked to see some old buffoon.
He's trying to calm me down.
One flick of my hand and the force surrounding me sent him flying into a wall. It seems like everything I see is red.
This must be it, my demon blood has finally changed me into something other than human. Something more like a monster.
"Sada...You have to stop this, you're hurting people!"
What? Why does that voice sound so familiar?
"Sadako it's me, Shirone! Just calm down, you'll be okay I promise!"
"Mr.Shirone..."
Suddenly I felt overcome with sadness, I couldn't stand on my feet anymore.
"Mr.Shirone...they killed him...he wasn't just a stupid pet...he was my friend, my only frien..."
I can't remember what happened next because this is the point in my life where everything was turned upside down.
Once I had finally calmed down I had found out why Shirone was there to find me.
As it turns out, I was invited to rejoin my place in the royal castle alongside my sister Atsuko. It seems the two of us have been given the honor of traveling to another world.
Some place called Neodeka? Either way I hope it's better than this world...
