Bob Reeves made his way to find a spot for the perfect setup for an ambush. Running in the dead of night in the middle of the woods but is still able to see thanks to his high tech night vision goggle. It highlights everything around him, so its easier for him to navigate in the woods.
carrying his big heavy machine gun at ease like it was a stick, being use to it after all these years of serving. That and because of his big muscle helps too plus the exoskeleton giving him strength and even much more than an ordinary muscly guy.
After awhile he came across a dirt path with mud and there's sign of horses and boot prints going upwards the burning village.
Bob figured that if the invading force went up this way to the large village, there's a big chance that they may retreat from where they came from.
Bob looks at the opposite direction of the burning village and he see a clearing up ahead so he makes his way there. When he gets there the path cuts through a large open area with tall grass all the way to the knees. He thought that this would be a good place for an ambush. Bob took off his big rucksack and rest it on top of a log, opened it and took all his equipment out gently.
In the sack there was a land mines, it is an explosive device activated by a pressure plate once an unfortunate soul steps one foot on it.
He grabbed a shovel and started digging holes in the ground for the mines. Spacing them out evenly and manage to plant twenty-five. Then he hid the tip of the plate with the soil, grass, sticks and any other natural materials around the area.
Bob went further down and summoned a machine gun that has automated targeting system, all it needs is to be remotely activated. Placed it between a tree and a rock far enough so that it won't be seen by anyone but closed enough for the gun to detect the intended enemy.
The only thing that Bob did not notice is the notification message in his head about the cost for summoning the automated machine gun. He was so focused on his current mission that he just disregard it.
After he set up all the hidden traps he went further up to hide himself. He search for a good spot large enough to hide his bulky body. He found a huge log beside the dirt path, the ground was not even, it sloped up a bit. But he thought that it was good for him as it would give him the height advantage.
He knelt down behind the log and rested his light machine gun on top of it. He took two ammo case out and placed them beside him, so that he can reload quickly when he runs out of ammo. After that he took two barrels of the same type as the one on his machine gun to swap out when the current barrels overheats. Bob took his side arm from his waist and quickly examining it for faulty then cocks the gun before returning it back to his holster. He felt his utility belt to make sure their is a spare clip for his side arm. He then took his army style knife and swipe his finger on the tip to make sure it's still sharp, then grabbed a leaf from the the dirt to cut it with his knife for a test before sheeting it back.
When he was happy that everything is accounted for and the trap is well hidden all he has to do now is wait for his enemy to show themselves.
He patiently waits for his pray in the dark behind a log up a slope ready to hail them with hundreds of hot lead.
A bit further in front of him is the mines he planted before hand after he got here. Bob decided to detonate the land mines remotely instead of it exploding the moment it was stepped on, so that he can time it with the ATS (Automated Targeting System) machine gun which is even further down than the land mines. He was excited for his perfect ambush to be successful so much so that he shivers from anticipation.
After waiting quietly he hears noises up ahead of him. A second later he sees red silhouettes from his visors approaching towards him and his traps.
"Come to papa"
...
...
The uniformed army marched towards the traps unexpectedly. Exhausted from the previous battle at the villages. He sees that they were carrying sword, shields, bows and arrows. Some were dragging their spears on the dirt with torches on the other hand. It was dark so they had to illuminate their path. There were only few people on horses which looked like the officers and or the people that are in charge of them.
It was a disorganized march with no formations from the lack of morals after the losing battle. Some were injured but even so they did not fall behind, keeping up the pace from the rest. Even after a bloody battle they felt nothing except the urge to stop, set up camp and fall asleep.
They have been doing the same thing for the last couple of days. March all day - raid a village - kill all inhabitants, soldiers, men, women, elders and even the children, no discrimination. Take anything of value from wealth, supplies and slaves.
They know that the army cannot stop for a rest because they will be chased by the victor if they do not put distance between them. It is for the sake of survival.
....
....
Bob sees people on horseback, a couple of them were injured from the previous battle. There were also foot soldiers with the same conditions some worse than others.
He waited for the right moment with his fingerless glove hands on the machine gun itching to pull the trigger. Watching the oblivious red silhouettes on his visors dragging their feet under the mine fields; waiting to explode on a touch of a button.
With a grin on his face, he softly said. "Let the show... begin." Bob then gently press the single big red button on the detonator.
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM
Explosion then erupted simultaneously on the dirt road filled with marching soldiers. A deafening boom that momentarily filled the night sky with bright light blossoming like a red rose.
Some were torn apart for those that were standing right on top of the mine. Others were blown away from the blast, dazed from the shock wave. Unable to hear except a high pitch sound and the surroundings were spinning.
The ones that survived and lying down on top of the muddy dirt were unable to comprehend what just happened. Non actually knew what was going on. But for those who were able to get their composer back quickly, started yelling orders or looking for orders.
"...AMBUSH..."
"...THEY HAVE DARK MAGIC..."
"WHAT DO WE DO??"
"TAKE COVER... FORM SHIELD WALL..."
"HAS SOMEONE...SEEN MY... ARM"
"SOMEONE HELP ME... I WANT TO GO HOME"
In the middle of everything there was only chaos. The ones that was not hit that hard had gathered together to form a disorganized shield wall to protect themselves from what they thought was a Dark magic. Bracing themselves for the next magic attack or for their enemy to rush them out of nowhere.
But nothing came except for the sound of RA TA TA TA in the distance. Then rays of light were flying towards them in an unbelievable speed. Although they tried to hide behind their shield it was useless because it bore a hole through and penetrated the holders killing them instantly.
One by one someone dies left and right by this glowing light coming from the front and the back. They know where it is coming from but the problem is they can't reach to it. Suddenly the sound stop and rays of light ceased coming, they took this chance to storm the position where the lights and sound were coming from.
"CHARGEEE"
They lifted their shield, raised their swords and screamed to the top of their lungs to give themselves little courage to run.
...
...
Bob was reloading the machine gun when all of the sudden he hears yelling, it's coming close real fast. He looks up to see a horde charging at him.
"Ho ho... Come and get some!!"
He cranks up his gun and open fired at the courageous fools offering their life to tracer bullets. One by one they fell riddled with holes losing momentum, hope of surviving the night instantly vanish.
Not letting go of the trigger, the gun just keeps spitting out more lead to the fools who does not know how to stop running straight at it. He does not even bother to carefully aim at his targets as they just gather like a flock of penguin.
Bob's machine gun just run out of ammo and it's over heating but there's still at least a dozen armed men in armour coming for him. So he ditch his machine gun, stands up and draws his side arm, trained it at the direction of crazed men with swords and fired while also taking a step back as he do so to give himself more room between them.
BANG... BANG... BANG...
His shots killed a couple of them leaving three still standing with their swords up ready to swing down.
He pulled his large army knife with his free hand to defend from the downwards strike. When successful, he pointed his gun to his enemy's belly and pulled the trigger once, twice and three times, leaving him lying on the ground holding the blood in as he spat some out.
The other one trust his sword forward when he saw his comrade fell riddled with holes.
Bob dodge it by stepping to the side, pulled his enemy's extended arm down and slashed his exposed front neck with the sharp knife cutting his trout.
The man dropped his sword and tried to hold his neck while he falls to his knees choking on his own blood.
The third and the last one attempted to kick Bob to make him lose balance, but it back fired when Bob caught it. He held the leg with the left hand while the right arm fell down on the knee joint snapping it in half. You can hear a bone chilling crunch sound, then you can hear the man yelling to the top of his lungs before fainting to the ground.
Bob turns around and yells "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!!" while raising both hands up high, looking at his audiences - imaginary audiences. 'Mmm... that would have been awesome if someone heard it. Oh well.'
Although someone did hear it. One of the survivors by the name of Gerald Frits now trying to escape, he has a bald head and moustache with a goatee.
He thought that remark was for him directly and that he had been found. So he quickly run with his tail tuck between his leg.
His reason for abandoning his men is because he has a duty to report this incident to his emperor; not because he is afraid to be here any longer.
