What they said makes a lot of sense based on their personality, which she knew. Even though they were not eager to look for her, they would not even have thought to bring their wallet. They went out for the purpose of looking for her instead of buying things. She does the same thing. She didn't like to bring money every time she went out because she didn't like to buy stuff. She was no materialist after all. But then she can't help but tease them more to hear more about how they could defend themselves on her accusations that she dumped to them.
As she expected, the two stood up for each other, which was more convincing.
"It was brother Elijah! As we were about to leave, he gave it to us!" Alexa said as she looked at Deneza innocently.
The thing that was on their ears was a wireless earpiece. Its uses and purpose were clear. Everyone knew what these wireless earpiece is for.
"Brother Elijah?" Deneza murmured, raising her eyebrows. After a long break, she looked at her and went on: "Why must you both cover your face?"
Eric and Alexa exchange glances before saying in unison: "Brother Elijah told us to do so."
Eric shrugged his shoulders and said: "Yes, we have no choice but to do what he says."
After Deneza heard what they said, she rolled her eyes at them as she pulled her face long while pondered what had happened earlier. If what they told her was true, then it all makes sense.
Deneza knew them all very well and, of course, the same applies to them. Brother Elias was very familiar with her. He was certain that as soon as she noticed their presence. She began to flee to get out of their sight to see the extent of their abilities. He was very certain that she would do so because she would be curious to know how well they hide their malice while spying towards her. But how could she not be curious? Who would hide their presence in broad daylight as though they were a special agent in disguise to investigate something and avoid making themselves known to someone they're trying to catch? The special agent would never do that because if their target was vigilant and could detect a suspicious presence, would their mission fail? It is preferable to act as usual in order to avoid being discovered by their target.
Unbeknownst to them, they unconsciously hide their presence, which has become their natural habit. So Deneza couldn't have blamed them for hiding their presence without them knowing. In fact, if you compare the way Eric and Alexa looked at her with the way innocent people looked at her, they're both completely different. The way people looked at her was filled with wonders, amusement, curiosity But for Eric and Alexa were full of intent although it wasn't malice but Deneza would definitely think that they were trying to hide their real intention toward her. They even concealed their presence while they followed behind her, which added suspecion in her heart. No one would blame her, because if everyone in the underworld felt that kind of thing, they would do the same and increase their vigilance toward them for safety measures.
However, what irritated her was that she fell into the trap that Brother Elijah had set for her. She hated that when Eric and Aleza mentioned Brother Elijah, She has already deduced the real purpose for which Brother Elijah did it. She hated it that she knew him very well. She knew that he only made this kind of stupid trap so that he could play with her while using his hacking skills to find her whereabouts since he seldom uses it.
She laughed lightly as she looked at Eric and Alexa whom she considered rats a while ago. But soon after, her expression got clouded when she thought how useless they are to her now. Watching her face go black, Eric scratches his nape while Alexa does the same, because they could tell what Deneza thinks as the word "how useless" were written on her face.
"Well, if it was back then, we probably have money hidden on the street." Eric said out of thin air that Deneza and Alexa looked at him and entered a deep thought. Eric continued: "Now that you think about it. I was hiding mine under a trash can."
Alexa suddenly laughed as she added: "I used to hide mine at the corner of the valleys and put plenty of trash to cover it."
Eric sighed before he said: "Righy, once we finally get our freedom back. I've forgotten to collect all the money I've hidden in the past.." He paused as he looked at Deneza and continued: "If only we're in K City, we'll probably get the money from where I've hidden my treasure." His expression became grave, and he continued: "I must say, it's a lot."
"Me too! I almost forgot all the precious treasures I hid on the streets. I wonder how much it costs if we get all of this?" Alexa curiously said, touching her chin, thinking about those treasures.
Deneza only looked at them with an empty expression and said: "It's been a long time, you think the money you hid in the past would still be there lying pitifully on the ground, waiting for you to pick it up?"
Alexa looked at her as she shake her head and said: "Deneza you're really no fun. Can't you see we're reminiscing about the past?
Eric nodded while pouting and said: "How can you be so cruel? I still want my treasure that I hid so I can retrieve it and make it my family heirloom."
Alexa watched as she burst out and said: "What the heck Eric? Seriously? Family heirloom?"
Eric glarring dagger at her as he said: "What's wrong with making it my family heirloom? In my opinion, it was the precious treasure this world had.!"
As they keep arguing. Deneza looked down at the ground and said softly: "Though we used live like hell and continue to question the world "why us?" But in the end, we were still happy to meet and be part of each other's lives.."
She looked at the two 'rats' who were busy teasing each other as she said in her mind and heart: "It's really great meeting you all and being a part of my life."
