Chapter 20 - 19 Level up

Cyan silently thought about the information he had just been given. He looked at the girl in front of him, she was a reincarnater like himself, a person not of this world. It actually comforted him knowing that the companion he had chosen was the same as him, though her stats were not as high. She far exceeded him on the cunning attribute though, was it possibly a class attribute for her? When he asked he found out that it was indeed the case, in fact she was rather shocked she saw that he had the stat as well when he shared his stats. She was actually shocked by all of his stats. but more so by him possessing cunning as it was supposed to be a rogue exclusive stat.

He explained the process in which he got it, raising it point by point before reaching level one. He explained the events that had transpired from the time he had arrived until now, not leaving behind any details. She marveled over the events, telling him that his truly lucky encounter was obtaining the pack, it would have been unlikely for him to reach such a high standard for his stats without it.

She further explained that different classes have different specialties, different skill sets and different stats associated with them. Those classes that had an exclusive stat recieved just that, and no other bonuses, but other classes received a bonus to one of their stats. For example mage type classes should have increases intelligence and wisdom which were used for their mana and mana regeneration. an Archer would have increased dexterity, or some would have the exclusive stat perception. She stated that his class did not seem to have a specialty, rather it allowed him to recieve all of the bonus stats, if he could meet the requirements.

This was all just a theory, useless unless it could be proved somehow. Cyan smiled. as they did indeed have a way to prove it. They had been waiting for his wounds to heal a little before continuing on, but it seemed unlikely to take a little amount of time. Thankfully they had an alternative all around them. Cyan hobbled around as he grabbed one of the bows from a fallen skeleton, and collected all of the arrows he could find.

He knew a little about archery, Living in a small town in a rural area he had been hunting several times in his past life. His mother had been a staunch believer that guns were bad, and had only allowed him to use a bow before he turned 18. That was several years ago, but he sti remembered everything he had learned back then.

The bow seemed small in his hands, even though he had grabbed the biggest one he could find. The long bow was 6 feet tall, with a draw length of 31 inches. The massive bow was still over half a foot shorter than him, and he would have preffered something a little bigger. Drawing the bow with no effort, he doubted the power that the bow could shoot. None the less he still made a couple practice shots, setting up a skeletal target at 50 paces, just outside the skeletons agro range.

It took him an hour to get the hang of it, his accuracy leaving something to be desired. only one out of three of his arrows hit the target, but with luck he would not ever even need to draw it. he eventually nodded to Beka, telling her he was ready for them to continue on. During this time they had came up with a plan. Beka would use her stealth and sudden strike to slowly pick off the archers, and when their numbers had been widdled down the pack would charge, and Cyan would rain down his arrows. Truthfully Cyan was just to big of a target for these archers, and he would soon become a pin cushion, leaving him only the option of practicing his archery at the end. Beka had assured him that when he was ready she would get far out of the way.

They used this plan to take on the next group of the undead, this one was much smaller, only having six archers. Beka flawlessly completes her role, using her sudden strike to pick one off and disappearing immediately after. This sort of tactic would not work on more intelligent enemies, but worked amazingly against these almost mindless skeletons.

When half of them disappear she gives the signal as she fades into her stealth and the Pack charges towards them. The skeletons fire randomly at the four advancing wolves, but there arrows are easily dodged. Cyan's archery was in need of a lot of work, moving targets were a lot harder to hit than stationary ones. His firing rate was also lacking. He managed to shoot off three arrows which all missed before the pack had destroyed the remaining archers. Thankfully they managed to get through the encounter without incident.

They rested for a moment while Cyan collected arrows. He again set up a practice target and began to shoot. His accuracy continued to improve against the stationary target, though it he still missed 60% of the time. He attributed this to his lack of practice and the awkward form of his body. It felt unnatural for him to hold a bow, his claws were meant for sundering flesh, not archery.

Eventually the once again advanced, they travelled roughly 300 meters before encountering yet another group of the undead. this group seemed different from the others, the most noticable difference being that the Skeletons seemed to move in a formation. they travelled in a rough V formation, and their were a total of 7 skeletons. 6 skeletons made up the V, with the right side having one more than the left. In the center a black robed skeleton traveled holding a staff made of bone.

The two studied the formation for several minutes as they discussed between themselves what to do. At one point Beka had gotten a little excited, and spoke louder than she should have. even though the skeletal formation was around 100 feet away, far outside the reach of their aggro zone the formation stopped, the Skeletsl mage looked in their direction. the two immediately stopped talked when they noticed the change. and a few minutes later the formation once again began to make its rounds.

Finally Beka entered stealth. Moving far slower than she normally did, she began to approach the formation. Hugging the wall, she began to circle them, approaching them from behind. The formation stopped, The mage rose its staff and mumbled some untillegable words as a bright flash filled the area. A brief silhouette could be seen, before quickly disappearing into the shadows.

The formation began to carefully move in her direction. The archers bows were drawn and the mage had its staff at the ready. Beka held her breath as she once again hugged the wall, moving as carefully as she could she tried to circle around the formation again. The skeletal head of the mage passing over her as it examined the surroundings. She froze, thinking she had been caught.

The formation continued to her previous location, and Beka made soundless steps away from it. A bright flash once again flooded the area, however this time the mages spell brought about no results. Beka seized the opportunity and soundlessly Chsrged the mage from behind, her blade flashing out at the last moment as it flew towards the mages head.

The swing was destined to miss however. as the mage rose his staff to block the blade. The archers swiftly turned towards her, causing her to quickly retreat. 6 arrows shot towards her, one of them impaling itself in her back.

Cyan let out a roar as he threw the bow to the ground, falling to all fours he charged towards the formation, his pack following behind him. Arrows rained down on him as he approached, some bouncing harmlessly off the floor around him, some of them grazing his skin. One of them impaled itself on his right breast, right below the shoulder. He grimaced at the pain, but continued to charge, once again barrelling into his enemy. the head of the formation flew backwards towards the mage, causing it to stumble. Beside him two archers fell to the two groups of wolves, Their necks severed as the wolves began to advance ok the archers behind them.

Cyan slowly advanced on the mage, his shoulder burned as blood poured down his chest. tmTwo arrows flew towards him from the remaining archers, planting themselves into his massive chest. Cyan mindlessly ripped out the arrows which had only penetrated around an inch into his pecks, they landing with a clang on the floor.

His eyes filled with rage as he advanced on the mage, He swung out with his left hand, slashing away the incoming volley of arrows. crouching to the ground he launched himself at the mage, catching its robes in his hand. The mage did not hesitate as it smashed its staff against Cyans head. a black corrosive substance burned into his flesh as the staff shattered. Unconsciously he let out a whimper as he fell to the floor.

The mage had no time to gloat over its victory as Beka appeared behind it, her blade flashing through the darkness sending the mages head flying into the wall. The fractured skull becoming dust as it sank to the floor. The final two Archers were felled by the pack, and the pack soon came to their master, laying down as they whimpered looking up at Beka with pleading eyes.

A series of notifications appeared before his eyes as he began to black out. The only one his blurry eyes could register was level up.
