Chapter 7 - #7 A name for the daughter of a village goddess.

It had been two years since Jun Luna had come to live on the island. The local fisherman and their families insisted that she was a goddess from their folklore. Although she had told them many times to the contrary, being the only two people of golden fox folk there, the Islanders had let her and her daughter live in the Shrine of the Moon Goddess. Set upon a lovely, flowered hill above the peaceful village it was a quiet and nice place to stay. Not wishing to take it for granted she devoted herself to restoring and taking care of the little Shrine and her child. She did all of the work on her own. The villagers were more than happy to donate all of their excess supplies as offerings for the blessings of the Gods. The Islanders protected them as if they were sacred treasures.

As the time passed the day came to give a name to her child. In the beliefs of Jun Luna's kind a child belonged to the Gods for their first couple of years of life. Children were borrowed from them until they deemed the parents worthy to raise them to be the inheritors of the land. And names given due to attributes of the child or signs from the heavens. Stewing over the perfect name, while the women from all across the island prepared for a grand celebration, was starting to give Jun Luna a headache and stomachache. As night started to descend and the crowds gathered poor Jun Luna was at a loss. Suddenly her little ones eyes grew wide and she spoke her first word pointing up at the sky, "Tail!" Turning around Jun Luna looked up to see a comet that resembled a Fox's tail, smiles, and let's happy tears roll down her cheeks. Her child even had begun to glow as if wrapped in a cool blue flame, with the loveliest, eight toothed smile on her chubby face The Gods had answered her prayers. This was her sign from the heavens.

Going out to the walkway in their ceremonial robes mother and daughter greeted the people then rang a gong to start the festivities. At the sound of the Shrine Bell's ring Jun Luna cleared her throat and proceeded to present the child's new name.

" I present to everyone the name that has come from the heavens for this child. Hence forth she shall be Kitsune Hi Suisei (Comet of Fox fire)." As the crowd cheered and clapped, Suisei pointed up again to the sky with energetic voice spoke out, " Mum Mum, Tail!" Astonished by this sweet tiny person's voice everyone looked up to see the comet over head. Oo's and Ah's escaped the lips of every single person. Then like it had been rehearsed not a single one was standing. Going to their knees, as if the Heavenly King or the Emperor was in attendance, the masses kowtowed and bowed, chanting prayers to the sky in reverence. Even Jun Luna and Suisei did the same. Gifts and well wishes were presented to the little girl in honor of the celebration.

The festivities lasted long into the night. Even the Elders declared the next day to be a Holy Reverence Day because every Islander including themselves were too exhausted to move. Life returned to normal the day following.
