Cambridge began with a procession of churches on both sides of the road—maybe this was why it was called Church Creek Road. All of the churches but one had an unkempt, abandoned look; their congregations evidently had lost faith following the catastrophe.
The single exception was a red-brick building that sat in the middle of a huge parking lot: it looked as if it might be the trade union headquarters of the parking attendants union, if one existed. However, a sign by the entrance to the lot advertised it as Kingdom Hall, a meeting place for Jehovah's Witnesses.
