When Li Yang and Jake returned to the cabin, they sat down to make detailed plans for the next day. Jake insisted on that, even though they were both really tired.
"We have a hell of a lot of work to do," he said. "We've only managed to clear a tiny bit of land for growing vegetables. It's not even a proper vegetable patch. A proper patch needs to be raised above ground level, with a sort of narrow, shallow ditch running all around it."
"Oh really? Why?"
"For proper drainage," Jake said. "Otherwise, the seeds or sprouts will rot."
"Where did you learn that?"
"I helped my grandparents set up a vegetable garden in their backyard."
"So you know something about farming, too."
"Not a lot. I don't really know how to grow things. I just know how to prepare soil for planting."
"What about fishing?"
"You talking about those fishing rods we got here? Yeah, I know how to use one. Not much more than that, though."
