He and Jake had barely started work when Irina burst into the squash court that had been converted into the mint's workroom.
"Mr. Morello wants to see you right away," she snapped. She was eyeing them with obvious hostility. Li Yang took that to mean she knew about Jake's move. He suspected Olga had complained to both Irina and Morello. So this is where the dream ends, he thought as he and Jake followed Irina on the long climb to Terence Morello's top-floor penthouse.
But when they all entered Morello's presence, Li Yang saw that he was wrong. Terence Morello, hotel manager and kickass colonizer, was looking at him and Jake with a benevolent smile. He told Irina to fuck off and he told them to sit down. Then he said:
"Guys, I have big news for you. Good and bad. Which do you want first?"
"Bad," said Jake, before Li Yang could open his mouth.
