Breakfast turned out to be an unexpectedly lavish spread: perhaps this was intended to celebrate Susanto's return. Understandably, Cruz and Susanto didn't speak much for a few minutes. This let Cruz recover a little from his shock, and finally ask Susanto a pertinent question:
"Does Jelly know he's dealing with, that Maria is my sister?"
"Hard to say," said Susanto, through a mouthful of fried ham. He swallowed, and continued:
"He might know she's your sister by now. But he definitely didn't know that earlier. Gabriel, I'm frightened by your state. You used to have one of the finest brains in business. Don't you think Jelly would've said something about her to you, if he knew you're her brother?"
"Well, yes. Unless he was planning a surprise for me."
"It would've been a surprise for you either way," said Susanto. "Gabriel, I'm worried about you."
