Despite some appearances to the contrary, Kirk was a good father. He cared for his children. He wanted them to be happy and successful. Of course, there was some self-interest involved. It reflected well on him when they were happy and successful. It improved his image, and image was the most important thing in the life of any politician.
"What is it, Adam?" he asked, concerned. "And how did you acquire that bruise on your face?"
"I was mugged, Dad. There was a fucking riot at the gas station. It's under control, everything is under control now, they got a squad of soldiers permanently stationed there. But unfortunately they chose a bad moment to slack off, and things got out of control and someone stole the coupons you gave me. Could I get more?"
"Of course," Kirk said automatically. "No worries. But I cannot understand why the fuck people would be rioting at a gas station. A food supermarket, sure. But a gas station?"
