Chapter 116 - Coincidence (1)

The weather was nice; the people wondered, and almost all eyes were set upon Sharmaine's beautiful walking figure as she entered the oddly familiar building of Suarez Corporation. She confidently, and unconsciously, headed for the Employees Only elevator, which surprised others who had not seen her before.

Even the people inside the elevator, they were also surprised. Just as she was about to step out, a familiar man caught her attention. It was the dashing Denzel wearing a dark red suit with the same colored tie. His hair was swept to the side and his eyes laid toward Sharmaine.

"M-Ms. Mendoza," he said, very surprised, "I was about to pick you up. I did not realize that you might've been here before." His smile was very warm, warm enough to pierce through the hearts of the one or two ladies in the elevator.

Sharmaine smiled back as they both headed toward the office. Her heart was racing for reasons she did not know, even his remark surprised her. Inside the office, Denzel warmly welcomed Sharmaine. The office was…much more familiar as she thought---frankly, the whole building felt more familiar than her mother's touch.

She took her time to look around, and suddenly, she noticed an empty desk. It was neither large nor small, but judging its placement, it was not meant for decoration. Her head ached, and a brief memory flashed through her mind.

In that memory, she remembered reading some kind of book with yellow-tinted pages and the smell of coffee. It was thick, and it seemed that she was very frustrated. The table in that memory looked similar or the same as the one in Denzel's office.

"Ms. Mendoza?" Denzel's voice just cut through her flying thoughts. She breathed out and smiled.

"Yes, Mr. Suarez?"

"Are you okay? You were staring too much at the air. Are you sick?"

Sharmaine giggled and shook her head. Somehow, her heart's beat suddenly went… abnormal. Sometimes it would beat fast, and sometimes, it would flutter. Their discussions continued at the office living room until the afternoon.

Sharmaine, who graciously sat on the soft couch, which also seemed familiar. When Denzel stood up to get necessary documents, she constantly found herself staring at the couch and gently wiping it. Another memory of hers flashed by, and she remembered waking up on this very couch.

"Ms. Mendoza, here are the previous statistics you ask."

His voice was soft, so it was unable to pierce through her thoughts. She swallowed and then faced Denzel. I was shamelessly daydreaming in front of my boss, she thought with a flustered face.

"Um… what did you say again, Mr. Suarez?" she asked with a smile, trying to cover up the fact that she was just distracted.

"As I was saying, here are the statistics you wanted. The financial and marketing departments could provide you a more detailed statistical report on previous years if you like."

Sharmaine reached out for the documents and briefly scanned it. "No need. I am just looking at it for reference. Regarding the partnership I previously offered, my mother would be delighted if you bring her an example of the finished product."

Denzel stood up, "Then I should explain you what your job is. As my secretary, you are obligated to fix my schedules, make preparations and most importantly, to bring me lunch. The previous---"

A moment of silence started as soon as he abruptly cut off his sentence. When Sharmaine looked at his ace, she couldn't help but notice the worry and frustration he mindlessly shown with his somewhat cold façade.

"Previous what?" she asked.

"It was… nothing."
