Chapter 90 - Searching for Answers (2)

Hours went by as Sharmaine stared at the page filled with thousands of words. Well, to be specific, she was not staring but rather reading it. Books piled beside her as she went through every single medical book all about amnesia, but not one had stated anything similar to hers.

Her not being able to distinguish events of her past. It was horrible, no, it was frustrating as she desperately wanted to know all the answers to her question.

"Is everything okay, Miss? You seem to be dismayed," asked Merry. She stood beside Sharmaine for almost two hours now. And it seemed to not bother Merry one bit.

Sharmaine frowned. "Could you fetch me some tea?"

"What kind of tea, Miss?"

"Take your pick."

"Understood." Merry bowed before leaving Sharmaine's presence. Finally, a little bit of freedom. She continued reading her book for a few more minutes before deciding to give up. As she closed the book, her eyes scanned the area, and with no sign of Merry, she stood up and wandered around the big library.

As expected, the halls just looked identical; it was the same as she had seen outside. A staircase wrapped around in the middle of the room, and as she looked down, she noticed how endless it looked.

Curiosity took over her mind, so much that before she decided to go down, her feet were already on the move. The walls were strictly made of stone, and every ten steps down, she'd encounter another part of the library. Modern-looking bulbs provided light, and as she looked up, the place where she started began to look like a black blur in the sky.

Eventually, she grew tired of walking down, but her determination to see what was at the end of her journey was like a raging fire. Minutes passed by, and finally, the spiral staircase of forever had an end.

Strangely, it was not some part of a library, but it was a big stone door with weird details. There details were written in a language, which she did no know, however, it did not seem like it existed either.

It wasn't Morse code, Chinese nor English. It was simply like some sort of code. Beside the big door stood two bigger modern lights that provided illumination. As she slightly touched the door, there was no sign of dust nor wear and tear. It was completely clean.

"Could that old woman come all the way down here only to clean this?" she murmured to herself. Simply, it was just impossible, and if it were possible, what could be inside this room? Does this room contain gold and diamonds that her mother would go so far as wanting it squeaky clean?

Her interest sparked once again. Behind this room, her answer lies. Slowly she pushed the stone wall, though it took quite a bit of effort just to nudge it a little. Just as she though the door's going to open, a woman called out her name.

"Miss, your tea is served."

Sharmaine swallowed. Was that the voice of Merry just now? It couldn't have been since it took her half an hour to get down here. Slowly she turned her head.

"I'm afraid, you won't be coming back here."
