A new day filled with boring possibilities came to Denzel as he woke up from a short nap. His work had been more stressful and piled up these past few days, so he pulled a couple of overnighters to drastically lessen the fiasco he created. He knew it himself that he was being stubborn. More opportunities might just come if he did business with Shawn Corporation, his work will not up if he just opted for getting a secretary, and he might've been married—all these things just did not come true because of his previous love's existence.
"Am I seriously becoming gay because of that man?"
He stared into an empty space, trying to get his act together. It was cringy, but he did vow to himself that he won't be falling for such man ever again—not that he would fall for a man—because all his love disappeared into thin air.
Distraction. That's what he used to forget Shawn, sometimes it worked, but most of the time, it didn't. He continued moving his hand fluidly, ignoring his heavy and exhausted state. Concentration filled his mind, which broke after a woman entered his office.
"My, my, still living?" she asked.
Denzel glanced up and replied, "Oh, Alexandra, what business do you have with me today?" in a monotonous and sarcastic voice.
Alexandra grunted and gave Denzel a sharp glare while crossing her arms. "I had a chat with your father the other day."
"What? Why?"
"He wants us to get married."
Denzel fell silent upon hearing Alexandra's statement. Then and there he realized that he was at the peak of his youth—an age suitable for marriage. It was indeed troublesome, but what choice does Denzel have? A man who owns an empire neither has an heir nor a wife. He doesn't even have his own girlfriend!
"Sorry to trouble you," Denzel said as he went back to doing paperwork.
Alexandra stared at him in awe. Both of them had been friends ever since they were born; their parents were the best of friends, so it just made sense to her that hes her husband-to-be. They went along very well, and they were both smart and powerful—they were shipped ever since high school as well. To be frank, he's the only person worthy to be her husband.
But, the longer they stayed together, the more she knew one thing: both of them didn't see the way they should be. For Alexandra, it just felt right to have Denzel as a friend and as a brother; it was merely the same for Denzel.
Or maybe, it was all a lie on her side.
"Why don't we try it?" she asked.
"Why?"
This was a mistake.
"I just thought that, maybe we should try dating."
No, they shouldn't.
Denzel did not reply, but deep inside him he knew he was not over his past love—he did not even saw Alexandra as a future wife. He did not want to hurt Alexandra, though she might just be going with flow. They were destined to marry anyway.
"I'll think about it."
