Chapter 69 - Conversations (4)

'I'll make sure that you'll never see Shawn after this.'

Denzel thought about what was in Shawn to get all of these attentions. Alexandra wanted him away, now Ivan wanted him away as well; for him, this was slowly getting absurd. Even now, he still hesitated telling him about his dismissal. The more he waited, the harder it was to let him go.

In the following days, Shawn acted weird, for Denzel anyways. Nevertheless, the curiosity deep inside him was boiling as it made him want to observe Shawn. His appetite suddenly blew up, his walking was getting more and more unstable, and worst of all, he frequently took his medicines every three seconds.

"So, Shawn was sick," he muttered.

he got even more ill when he threw up the shrimp soup. Genuinely, Denzel was surprised as he never thought that Shawn was allergic to shrimp. It just suddenly occurred to him that he did not know Shawn at all, when really, he did not make any effort to get to know him.

At work, Shawn would always do things regularly as if he never felt sickly at all. He was very efficient for a sick person, but Denzel kept quiet until Shawn asks or demands a day-off. Continuing, Denzel made him stop reporting all of a sudden as he figured that the work load might've been too much for him as he started vomiting.

Reports felt slower and his symptoms became easier to spot, and he would occasionally hear Shawn in the bathroom, throwing up all he ate—breakfast, lunch or dinner. Strange enough, he would gobble up food within minutes before Denzel's eyes.

Every night, he would hear words that was part of the past—hear voices from his unconscious mind.

'Fire your secretary.'

'He is a threat.'

'You'll never see him again.'

And many questions sprung out every single time. It did not make sense. Was he missing some sort of information? The envelope Alexandra gave to him was still under his cabinets as he wasn't ready to face the truth; these questions surrounded his life for the past weeks. He never wanted an answer, but he also couldn't make his wanted actions.

There were only a few days left until Alexandra would take another visit in the office; as much as he needed Shawn, he much needed Alexandra, he thought until he made up his mind. Tomorrow, he'll dismiss Shawn and give him a lot of money—even properties.

Present time . . .

Denzel woke up on a Saturday morning. He wanted to settle things once and for all, he thought silently until a knock came once and then twice. He reached out for the door, gently opening it that revealed a clad Shawn. He was surrounded by luggages and bags, and on his face was a face filled with different emotions.

"Denzel," Shawn fidgeted his fingers. He did not know what to say.

But for Denzel, it was clear. Shawn was leaving. Ironic.

Shawn breathed out. "May I leave for a while?"
