The walk to the school dorms wasn't far, but due to the lack of exercise I've received over the past few months I've been stuck at home, I was already wheezing by the time we reached our destination. The sign on the stunning brick structure read "Bordeaux House, home to the snow bears"
"Welcome to Bordeaux house, I'll be your matron, Mrs Birnest" a giggle escaped my mouth before I could hold it back, what a suitable name I thought. The matron gave me an austere glance before continuing her tedious speech about the history and basic context of the boarding house.
Suddenly, a curious head popped out from behind the matron and spoke out.
"Hey bird nest, I've got it from here" the matron was fuming at this point and gave up before the civil war began.
The quaint girl in front of me bore a mild resemblance of someone out of a cartoon, despite being somewhat short in height, she seemed more mature than a normal sixteen year old. Glossy, dark strands of hair cascaded down her shoulders and stopped midway down her back. She had caramel brown eyes and delicate freckles which were scattered across her face, at first glace, you probably wouldn't notice the minute scar across her cheek, but up close, the blemish was clearly visible.
"Scuba diving" the girl answered without a pause as she noticed my wondering eyes.
"My family and I were on holiday in Malta, I was quite young and naive and managed to fall off a cliff" she sniggered audibly and covered her mouth immediately.
"I'm extremely sorry, I totally forgot to introduce myself!" The girl smiled warmly and glowed a shade of crimson. "My name is Megan, pronounced MEE-GAN, and I'm your new roommate! Aren't you excited? Oh of course I know who you are but I'm quite curious as to why you decided to join Rosey midway during the school term. Enough on that, come in I'll show you the way to our dorm! Bella and Anilesse are waiting for you."
The staircase was steep and narrow, meaning one missed footing could lead to a certain disaster, which I really did want to avoid on my first day at Rosey. The dorm appeared after we escaped the labyrinth of secrets you called hallways. The room number read 202 and before I could interrupt Megan, who was explaining with a burning passion the houses of Rosey, "so of course there's Bordeaux, then there's Lyon, and FYI all the cute boys are in Lyon! Especially Alec, he's so dreamy isn't he. She pointed at a poster stuck on the wall beside the door of a tall, blonde boy riding in what looked like a horse polo match and her eyes softened. There's also Avignon, all the really smart people are in that house and last but not least Cannes, home the group of the brattiest people I've ever met, and of course going to receive their daddy's money when their older. Pft, spoiled brats." Before Megan could carry on, someone across the room interrupted, which I was secretly glad about, but Megan was clearly not satisfied.
"Your Clover right? I'm a huge fan of your mum, she's an amazing actress" I put on a fake smile and replied. "Yes, she's the best, any chance I'll know your parents?"
Bella scrunched her nose before responding "Dad's not that famous around here, but he's quite a rich man in India, you might know Megan's mum though" Megan looked away to avoid my gaze. Another voice came from the other side of the room, "Owner of the 'Glossy' magazine? Of course I'm sure you know what that is." Megan changed the topic and averted it to the girl beside her. "This is Anilesse, she's from Korea and didn't come long before you did, her parents are singers and wanted to send her to France to get better education-" "You can call me Ani" Anilesse interrupted,a mild accent coating her speech "Do you have a nickname too?"
