Tuesday morning, 8:10 AM:
I finally arrived at the building of Sckietel industries. I'll be drilled.
After that really long sequence that you're probably bored of reading through, I ran to the elevator and I pressed the button of the penthouse because that's where my future boss' office is located. I'm soo nervous! I can feel it crawl through my skin. "What does she think of me?" These thoughts echo in my head repeatedly. As the elevator goes up, I can slowly feel my fear and doubt go up as well, trying to slowly envelop me in it's embrace. I am also hit by the realization that I'm late. It hit me like a truck. Oh god, please no.
The elevator opened it's doors and I walk out. Every step I take makes it harder to walk because of the fear of what's going to happen to me. "I have an excuse, right?" I mumbled before opening the door. I see a familiar woman who's face is red from anger. When she saw me, her gaze is sharper than a sword. There's a glass with brandy on the table. She grabbed it and immediately threw it towards my direction. I dodged and the glass shattered, making the room reek of alcohol.
"Ms. Schmitt, please go easy on her!" A woman dressed in white said. She's quite tall and slender . Her face looks finesse but due to the current situation, her face is painted in distress and disbelief.
"Who's the boss here, Kelsey?" Elizabeth asked sarcastically. "I'm sorry but I think you should go easy on your assistants next time otherwise she'd quit just like the last one." Kelsey said.
She dragged me out before scolding me. "Why are you late? You know she has a terrible temper!" She scolded. "It's really traffic." I explained. "Let me introduce myself, I am Francesca Kelsey, your trainer. I train the subordinates of Ms. Schmitt." She told me. "Let me tell you about this job. You are the assistant or secretary of Ms. Schmitt. You have to keep her schedules and everything about her in check. You also have to stop her from causing a scandal and you have to try and quell her urges with alcohol." She added. "Do I have to learn any other languages or do I have to sacrifice myself for her or what?" I jokingly asked. "You do have to endure being dehumanized." She answered. "She has quite the temper as you saw earlier, her past assistants either left her or they got fired for setting her off too much." She added.
"You should go in her office now. I have to help the others, goodbye." She said before leaving. At least there's nice people in this place.
I went into Ms. Schmitt's office to check up on her. She seems to have calmed down. The mess that she made is still there, she's probably expecting me to clean it up for her. "Sorry about being late, I the traffic is worse than usual. I am Rune Conner, your new personal assistant and I look forward to working with you." I formally introduced myself just to at least sound professional but I think I'm trying too hard. "The fact that you're trying too hard to conceal your incompetence is funny." She sarcastically commented. I wanted to slam her head then and there but hey, I'm not trying to be fired. "Well, qhat are you standing there for? Call the cleaning department!" She commanded. I went to the phone and I called the janitors to come clean up after her. After that's done, she asked me to go to her.
"Go to the oncology lab. I don't really have time to check up on them." She said. "They're supposed to send it to me via email but they said that the data mysteriously dissapeared. The fact that this happend shows their incompetency." She added. "Oncology.... You're making a cure for cancer?" I asked. "I am, it's for a rather personal... reason." She answered. "Before leaving, the lab is at 1455, x street, south of the train station two stops away. Also the lab is in a huge complex." She added.
I take the elevator then I run out of the building to the train station to board the train to go to Y stop because that is the station two stops away. After millions of running down the stairs, I finally boarded the train going there. When the train arrived, I kept running until I reached the complex.
Then, I entered through a huge gate with so much things I have to do before I can go in. I had to go through a scanner, then I had to get patted down just like what they do in airports, it's almost kafkaesque. then I asked around to find the lab. "Turn right that way then turn left at the first road you see." They said. I find myself walking even more. God, this is really, really fun. I reached the outside of the lab. There's an automated glass door. I enter and I ask the concierge where is the oncology lab.She questioned me at first and she asked me my credentials. "What's going on? Why do you seem worried?" I asked. "The data mysteriously dissapeared. There's not too much evidence aside from a blurry piece of footage that shows a man doing something on one of the PCs. I doubt there would be anyone outside this company who would steal the data as it's heavily protected." she said "If you're looking for the lab, it's at the 3rd floor and before you go, take this key card. You'll need it to access the floors."
I went to the elevator and I put the key card on the scanner found on top of the buttons. It automatically selected the 3rd floor. As the doors opened, the air became stale. I walk closer and closer and I see plenty of faces that seemed to have their life sucked out of them. Their faces are white in combination of spots even darker than the night under their eyes. They looked like they haven't slept in a really long while. I spot a familiar face going towards me. As the person goes nearer and nearer, I realize that he's Claude. Rather than his perfect, jade skin and really deep black but still bright eyes, I see his empty eyes, devoid of any signs of life and his skin that seems to have it's life sucked out of it. It ruins his beautiful face and physique. He looks like a husk of himself.
"We meet again." I said. "Why are you here?" He asked. "I'm here to see what happend. Ms Schmitt sent me here." I answered. His face is just bothering me. I can't help but feel worried for him. Is he taking care of himself? I can't help but avert my eyes from him. "Is something bothering you?" He asks. "Ah, it's nothing." I quickly said. "Speaking of which, can you tell me what happend in detail?" I asked.
We went to the lounge. It's cold so I wrap my arms against my body to try and warm myself. He sat me down and we started talking. "The situation is really baffling. The data is confidential, only the staff of this lab and Ms. Schmitt can only access it. There's no signs of any break-ins and everything looked and seemed normal." He said in a troubled tone. "When did the data dissapear?" I asked. "We realized the data dissapeared in last Friday. It was still there the week before so it just disspeared last week. He answered. "Oh, anyways do you have any leads on who took it?" I asked. "There is grainy footage of an indistinguishable figure using one of the PCs. It was filmed during Thursday night, during the party. I think the perpetrator is either a really talented hacker or an insider. I'd pick the latter though. The security is really tight especially around night." He stated. My phone rang and I check it. Elizabeth's calling me. I pick up.
"Ms. Conner! I need you to do something urgent now. Buy me some brandy. I don't want cheap trash okay?" She commanded. Claude is looking at me. "Is it Ms. Schmitt?" He mouthed. I nodded my head and I smiled. "Yes, coming right soon Ms Schmitt." I answered. She then dropped the call and I sighed. "Her mood is really unpredictable." He commented. "She literally threw a brandy glass at me." I snarked. "Are you her new assistant?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm really lucky, aren't I?" I complained. "You better not keep her waiting." He joked.
I ran out of the building and out of the complex. I went to the nearest liquor store and I checked out their selection. I bought one of their most expensive brandy, this one costing around one hundred pounds. I went to the train station and I ran back to the office building. I went up the elevator and I ran to her office as fast as I can. I opened the door and I gave her the bottle.
"What's this? X brandy, this is terrible brandy! Why did you buy this?" She scolded. "Ms Schmitt, you didn't specify what did you want. How could I know what to buy? That thing cost me £100." I explained. "Take it! It's yours. After all, you bought it with your own money. Just make sure you finish it within this week otherwise you'll lose your job. You're dismissed." She angrily said.
I go back home. I open the door to my apartment and I drop my bag immediately. I go straight to my bed. I feel really tired. I can feel my eyes get heavier as time passes. I go on and brush my teeth, do the stuff I have to do and I sleep.
I love my life so much. My boss is like a 3 year old spoiled brat. I really understand why my predecessor quit her job after 3 days.
