Mak wouldn't say what happened to his sister so finally, I decided to ask Evelyn. "Evelyn, what happened to your sister?"
Evelyn curled her brows and after a while of silence, she sighed. "Not my...Mak's my half brother. He has a younger sister.. I think she's always weak for some reason but don't know why..."
Their family's so complicated. I thought to myself.
Days passed by and it was already Christmas. Our family gathered and Mr. Brown told Evelyn to give me her present. Shy Evelyn handed me the present looking down blushing.
Although I prepared a present for Mak. My brother told me to give it to Evelyn. "But it's for Mak, " I whined. "Lucien!!!" My brother was mad at me. So I didn't argue just handed it to her.
Late Night
I was crying holding my sheets. "I bought the scarf and flowers for you Mak. But Evelyn took it. I hate her."
Mak patted me, "She didn't take it..Also, you already gave me a beautiful gift so I don't need anything."
"Wha-at gi-ftt?" I looked at him with my dow teary eyes.
"You gifted me the most beautiful time in my life..Thanks for playing, doing silly stuff with me it was so fun..I forgot everything for a while." Mak's eyes were gleaming. Those words weren't a lie. He meant it.
I wanted to tell him the same thing but hesitated. He could express his Canadian gentleness through words which I couldn't.
Our good nice days ended after two days as I was sent back to America to celebrate the New Year with my so-called family.
