Chapter 1 - The Beginning

A women sits in the middle of a field of daisies. I look around and see nothing, but the daisies as far as the eye can see. No matter how hard I looked I could never see any buildings in the distance. I turn back to the women and start to walk to her. As I approach she leans over and plucks a daisy from the earth and a wave of decay rushes in all directions. The wave hits me and strips all of my skin and muscles away till only my bones remain, but it doesn't phase me. I continue to walk towards her. She turns to me as I am almost upon her. She smiles up at me and says in a knowing voice, "I knew you'd come for me I've been waiting" then she hands a wilted daisy to me. I looked up from her at the field of wilted daisies. That's when I woke up with a cold sweat coating my body. I slid my legs off the edge of my bed and sat there taking a deep breathe thinking that every time I have that dream I get farther than the time, then wonder what would happen the next time. I walk out to the kitchen to my roommate and best friend, Cooper Scrimble, hunched over a bowl of Captain Crunch. He looked up and said, "Mornin Gabe, how'd you sleep last night?" I looked at him and say, "I had the dream again." Cooper looked back at his cereal and said, "That women in the field of wilted daisies again?" I nodded and Cooper said, "Are you finally gonna listen to me and go ask your therapist what it might mean?" I shrugged and Cooper sighed and looked up from his cereal. He said, "Gabriel you always wake up looking pale and like you were up all night. So why can't you just please go to the therapist?" I just looked at Cooper and said, "Fine if it'll get you off my back I'll go today, but can I at least get some food first." Cooper grinned and said, "Go ahead but, I ate the rest of the Captain Crunch." I sighed and said, "Guess it's pop tarts again for me. You know it'd be nice if you didn't always eat all the cereal." Cooper put on a face of mock offense and said, "If I do that then that means I have to share." I just shook my head at him and grinned and saying, "Whatever you stingy bastard see if I support your candy obsession anymore." Cooper said, "My candy obsession I seem to remember you eating it all before you got home last time." I laughed, "Because you don't share the cereal."

After breakfast Cooper told me he'd had the appointment with the therapist scheduled for 10:00 A.M. So after Cooper left and I scarfed down the rest of my pop tarts I looked at the clock and saw I should get dressed and head out. Once I had slipped into my clothes I grabbed a jacket to keep out the Manhattan winter breeze. I took my keys off the loop and headed towards the parking garage. Right as I got to the car I remember Cooper hadn't told me which therapist he'd scheduled. So I put my hand into my pocket, but I didn't find my phone there. I checked my other pockets to see if my phone was there. Not finding it I let out a gravelly sigh and put my head against the car. I jogged back up to the apartment. I walked into my room and search through the piles laying all over the place. Then I spotted the phone under a pair of my shorts underneath the bed. I grabbed it and on my way down to the car called Cooper. He told me the address and I asked him, "Is it the one across the bridge?" Cooper said, "Yeah and I hope you get some help to understand what's going on in that head of yours Gabe." With that he ended the call and I got in the car. I was glad that it was Wednesday and traffic across the bridge wasn't going to be really bad. I kept replaying that dream over and over in my head wondering what it could possibly mean. As I drove over the bridge there was a tremor. I looked at the other cars around me as we had all slowed down. Then something seemed to explode and the force sent cars sliding and falling over the edges of the bridge. Then there was another wave of air and I went over the edge of the bridge, but before the scene was out of my eyesight I saw something unbelievable happened. A hole had appeared in the air and things were flying out of it. Then the scene was replaced with the water and shattered glass. Before fading to darkness.
