Chapter 46 - Nightmare (8)

A new day began.

Despite the restless night before, and feeling quite exhausted today, work still had to be done. At seven o'clock in the morning, Chu Xuelin and Jiang Xiaofen left the villa and drove to the company.

It had rained heavily a few days ago, and there were still many puddles on the road. The morning sun cast dazzling reflections on them.

The couple was silent throughout the journey, creating a heavy atmosphere in the car.

Chu Xuelin drove quietly, pondering over the events of the previous night.

A person hanging outside the window wasn't hard to achieve. If, as previously speculated, Li Tian had an accomplice, then it would be easy. The accomplice on the rooftop could use a rope to hang Li Tian down. Because it was night, it would be difficult to see the rope from the bedroom. This explained Li Tian's sudden appearance and disappearance: as long as there was someone on the roof, they could pull Li Tian up or let him down at will...

Hmm. That could be tentatively concluded. But what about the head pierced by the crossbow arrow?

Being shot through the head but appearing unharmed was a bit too bizarre... Chu Xuelin's brow furrowed deeper.

It was a puzzle beyond his understanding...

"I might be back late today... Anyway, be careful today. If it's too much, take Chu Chu and stay at my parents' place for the night."

On the way, Chu Xuelin received a call that there was trouble at the branch office in Binnan City, requiring his personal attention. When it rains, it pours. One problem followed another, but they had to be dealt with. So, after dropping Jiang Xiaofen at her office, Chu Xuelin immediately drove to Binnan City. Before leaving, he gave his wife a string of urgent instructions.

Jiang Xiaofen's eyes were bloodshot. She nodded and said, "I know. Be careful on the road."...

After watching her husband's car disappear into the distance, Jiang Xiaofen silently returned to her office.

Faced with a pile of documents, she felt an unprecedented weariness. Sighing, she slowly turned on her computer.

The computer seemed unusually slow to start up today.

The screen finally switched to the company's main system page.

Jiang Xiaofen sighed with relief and moved the mouse.

Suddenly, something strange happened.

The computer screen went black!

As Jiang Xiaofen was in shock, the screen flickered, and Li Tian's portrait appeared in the center of the screen!

Jiang Xiaofen rubbed her eyes in disbelief, but the screen remained unchanged. Li Tian's portrait filled the entire screen, showing him smiling happily, his mouth curved in a clear mockery.

Jiang Xiaofen frantically clicked the mouse...

Just then, a loud knock came from the door, startling her. She quickly turned off the screen and, trying to suppress her unease, said, "Come in."

The door opened, and the company's IT director rushed in, anxiously exclaiming, "Manager Jiang, all computers connected to the network in the company have crashed!"

As he spoke, Jiang Xiaofen felt a darkness before her eyes and slumped into her chair...

....

Meanwhile, back at the temporary safehouse....

Mu Zi hurriedly parked his motorcycle and rushed upstairs.

Bursting through the door, he shouted, "It's over! Chu Xuelin..."

But he stopped abruptly, stunned.

Li Tian stood behind the door, winking non-stop. And on the sofa in front of the window, there sat a person.

Ouyang Liuse!

Mu Zi was dumbfounded for a good ten seconds before approaching Ouyang Liuse with a puzzled look, "Ouyang, you..."

Ouyang Liuse was motionless, her face devoid of warmth or smiles, but wearing a faint... anger. Before Mu Zi could finish his sentence, she sighed and said, "You can continue talking to Uncle Li. What happened to Chu Xuelin?"

Mu Zi was taken aback again. He calmed himself and slowly sat down in front of Ouyang Liuse, looking directly into her beautiful eyes, and said calmly, "Alright. If you have any questions, just ask. There are some things I didn't want you to know, but now, I've decided not to hide them from you anymore."

"Okay," Ouyang Liuse nodded. "When I asked about your family, you said you were an orphan and had no family."

"That's true," Mu Zi nodded. "I didn't lie to you."

"Alright. Since you're an orphan, you must have a job to support yourself, right? Or do you have a substantial inheritance? But judging from our interactions these past days, the latter seems unlikely."

"I've explained to you, actually, I'm an online writer, earning a living by writing on websites.

That's why I attend classes during the day and write at home at night!" Mu Zi explained.

Ouyang Liuse shook her head, scoffing, "Don't think I'm a child. I'm not so easily fooled. These past few nights, you weren't at home. In fact, after dropping me off, you never came back but went straight to Chu Xiao Group!"

Mu Zi was startled, "Ouyang, how did you know? Did you... follow me?"

A blush appeared on Ouyang Liuse's face, "Because I care about you." After saying this, she sneakily glanced at Li Tian, who was standing at the door like a third wheel.

Li Tian tactfully stepped out and quietly left.

"If you can, tell me. Mu Zi, what exactly do you do? And the computer virus you asked me to make a few days ago, what was it for? What exactly is your relationship with Chu Xiao Group?"

Mu Zi twirled a lock of hair on his forehead, a gentle smile appearing on his face. "Alright. Before I tell you this story, first tell me why you didn't go to work today and came here instead? Didn't I call you and say I had something to do and wouldn't be attending class today?"

"It's precisely because I wanted to know what you were up to that I came here," Ouyang Liuse said softly. "You might not know, but last night, I was waiting for you downstairs until about five in the morning when you and Uncle Li returned on the motorcycle. I... was worried something happened to you."

Mu Zi was surprised, "You waited for me all night downstairs?"

"Yes. I had to find out what you were doing when you weren't with me," Ouyang Liuse said resolutely.

Mu Zi looked at the beautiful girl in front of him in astonishment, taking her soft hand into his own, "Silly girl, why didn't I notice you then? Why didn't you greet me?"

"First, I was angry about your secrecy and lies towards me and didn't want to deal with you at the time. Second, you came back so late, I wanted you to rest as soon as possible..."

Although Ouyang Liuse placed her anger as the primary reason, Mu Zi knew very well that the second reason was the most important.

A warm current flowed through his body. Mu Zi held her hand tightly and pulled her into his embrace.

"Ouyang, now, let me tell you an unbelievable story…"
