Chapter 14 - Wutong Complex (6)

Mu Zi and the lady boss didn't spend much time in the hospital because when they arrived, Yezi had just finished a chemotherapy session and was in deep sleep. They only stayed for a short while before leaving.

After leaving the hospital, both of them fell into an unusual silence in the car.

Unless one experienced it personally, it was impossible to comprehend the heart-wrenching feeling. Seeing Yezi on the hospital bed, Mu Zi felt as if his heart was being torn apart. Was this the beautiful, lively, and healthy Yezi he remembered? The Yezi on the bed was pale, thin, with hollow eyes, and sparse hair. Lying there, she evoked an indescribable sadness. Her parents, both simple and honest workers, looked even more pitiable. Yezi's mother, in her fifties, seemed somewhat bewildered, speaking incoherently. Her father's hair had turned completely white, his honest face clouded with worry, walking with a stoop... These not-so-old parents were struggling and forcing smiles for their daughter. When Mu Zi and the lady boss left money and prepared to leave, the couple kneeled before them, weeping and bowing their heads. At that moment, Mu Zi couldn't hold back his tears any longer, and the lady boss cried even more bitterly...

"Yezi, I must help you. I must make sure you survive..."

"Oh God, please inspire me, give me the strength to quickly raise the money to help poor Yezi..."

It took a long time for the two to gradually recover from their sorrow. The car's atmosphere remained heavy and silent. Mu Zi noticed that the Grey Wolf perfume bottle was missing. He had been too preoccupied with grief to notice that the lady boss had indeed given the perfume to Yezi. A warm feeling surged in Mu Zi's heart. Helping Yezi out of friendship and subtle affection was one thing, but the lady boss's help was truly selfless and great. In this materialistic era, such people were rare. Mu Zi felt fortunate to have met such a good boss on his first job...

"Sister Ning, thank you," Mu Zi couldn't help but say, sincerely.

The lady boss, with her makeup slightly ruined and eyes a bit swollen from crying, was still beautiful in Mu Zi's eyes, like an angel.

"Thanking me?" she looked at Mu Zi, a faint smile on her lips. "You don't need to. Anyone who sees such a situation, as long as they have a bit of conscience and compassion, would do the same."

"Sister Ning, you... are really a good person..."

Before Mu Zi could finish, the pleasant ringtone of a mobile phone suddenly interrupted. The lady boss slowed down the car and answered the call.

"Hello? Oh, it's you? Isn't it just three o'clock? Haha, can't wait any longer? Okay, okay, I'll come right over, alright? Yes, the usual place."

Mu Zi couldn't hear the man's voice on the other end clearly, but from the lady boss's conversation, it was clear that someone was waiting for her, and their relationship was not ordinary.

"Mu Zi, I need to meet a friend. We're not far from the restaurant now; you can walk back," the lady boss said, taking out her makeup kit.

"Alright, Sister Ning, then... I'll head back. Thanks again for what you did for Yezi!" Mu Zi opened the car door to get out, speaking earnestly.

As the lady boss applied her lipstick, she smiled at Mu Zi, "Go on, then. If I return late, please take care of the restaurant, okay?"

"Got it! I'm leaving now, Sister Ning!"

Mu Zi waved through the window and walked briskly towards Ningxiang Pavilion.

Such a good person, how could she...

Three to four minutes later, the car slowly started and accelerated away.

Meanwhile, Mu Zi, who had disappeared down the street, suddenly ran out of a nearby supermarket and hailed a taxi.

"Driver, follow that red Hafei Roadster ahead..."

The taxi trailed the Roadster through the streets. Mu Zi sat in the back, eyes fixed on the car ahead, feeling tense inside...

Perhaps due to his experience with his stepmother and complete unfamiliarity with romantic relationships, Mu Zi had a deep-seated hatred for betrayal. In his view, betraying someone's feelings was despicable and shameful.

So now, he wasn't being nosy or curious. He just wanted to prove with his own eyes that his good boss, his Sister Ning, was not someone who would betray a relationship!

The Hafei Roadster turned left and right, as if traversing the entire city. Watching the taxi meter's numbers jump, Mu Zi felt his heart ache.

Where could they be going... the suburbs?

Just as he was puzzled, he noticed a strange phenomenon. A black Audi had been following his taxi, just like he was tracking the Roadster.

Strange...

Could this be the proverbial "the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind"? But I'm not a mantis, so what use is an oriole following me...

After a moment of confusion, Mu Zi realized the most likely possibility: the Audi wasn't following his taxi but also tracking the lady boss's Roadster!

As he pondered, the Roadster slowly turned right into a secluded street and stopped in front of a luxurious mansion. The lady boss and the man in the car apparently owned the mansion, as the gates automatically opened upon their arrival.

"Alright, driver, don't follow anymore. Turn left here, and I'll get off at the corner."

Mu Zi paid and got out, quickly hiding in some bushes. From there, he could see into the mansion's yard.

Sister Ning, please don't disappoint me...

He intently watched the movements inside, when the Audi that had been following also arrived, stopping not far from the mansion's entrance. The car's occupants didn't get out.

Inside the yard, the door of the Roadster opened...
