"Sorcerers and Warriors" °•○●
He was relieved when no one asked why he smelled bad as he went home and helped his mother cook dinner.
He was terrified of his mother, especially after learning that they were living in a clan that sold materials used to make explosives. He was probably sensitive to the smells of that sort of thing, right?
In the family, her mother mostly worked in distribution and transportation. His father, on the other hand, was just a regular employee doing errands. Ren was sure they would both instantly recognize the smell of gunpowder and smoke.
Ren had heard that his mother could also sense many supernatural things. After all, her mother was a sorcerer!
Yeah! Ren had a magician mother. Isn't it cool!
In the world where Ren lived, there were two different groups, the "warriors and the mages". These groups represent two different powerful ancient lineages. Warriors develop their bodies, becoming more and more durable, powerful and faster.
Sorcerers, on the other hand, become more intelligent and powerful while even controlling natural events by using the elements they are close to.
But if we consider which side is stronger or advantageous technically, no one has any idea about it. Even if there was, Ren didn't know the answer.
..
Ren's mother was a level 4 mage. Although her mother was not considered very powerful in general, she was cherished as she was the only mage in the clan. It was her mother's own choice not to work in her own business and to be a manager in the clan. At the moment, he was only in charge of simple tasks, giving orders, calculating material matters and not getting involved in more. She was someone who had no authority in the clan, but was respected even more than those who did.
Ren so envied these two fantasy groups. He would have known almost nothing about them if his mother wasn't a witch.
Warriors (Knights of Destruction) and Mages (Element Masters)!
These wizards and warriors were legendary and cool in Ren's eyes. They could travel to wild and dangerous parts of the world where humans couldn't tread. Even his mother was a big hero to the little boy. Although he didn't know for sure, how or at what level his mother was as a witch.
Ren sat at the table with his mother after the meal was prepared. While waiting for his father, who never showed up, his mother turned her attention to Ren and began to speak in a serious tone. "I was planning to tell you when your father came, but I guess there's no need to wait. Would you like to start training with a few kids of your age tomorrow?"
Ren couldn't answer at first as he didn't fully understand what he was hearing. But then he nodded and started shouting excitedly. "Of course. I do! It starts tomorrow. Then who's going to check my talent?"
His mother smiled and amused at her son's excitement. "You're my son. You must have at least inherited my elemental mastery (sorcery) even though no one controls it. Also…—just as Ren was about to intervene—" she continued, "and I'm also sure there's nothing wrong with your body. So you don't need to worry. But I don't know what element and what style you're capable of."
His mother hadn't actually controlled Ren's body. But Ren's body had no flaws, so she had deduced that he would naturally have powers like herself. It was often disabilities, major burns, and dysfunction of brain hindered the education of magicly gifted people. In other words, there was no handicap for Ren, who had no visible flaws.
..
Ren heard a lot from his mother about the differences between sorcery and warriorship. He especially knew that witchcraft was about controlling the elements and natural energy.
A high level mage could be called an "Element Master". When she asked why her mother was given these titles and why the word "mage" was not enough, her mother answered with a smile. "Magicians are people around who can do a few small jobs. They do a little alchemy, twist some matter, and move stones.
.. but people whose level exceeds a certain limit now have enormous powers. It would be an insult to call them by the same name as mages. An Elemental Master can turn an entire mountain into dust with just one flick of his hand. With a single hand movement, he controls the storms in the sky and creates deluges. People who are called as sorcerers and mages can only dream of these."
"Warriors are the opposite. So it's just focusing on the body and getting used to gaining physical strength without worrying about the elements for a long time." she said.
Seeing the eager look in Ren's eyes, Aya decided to explain a little more.
"Warriors are the opposite of mages. They focus all their energies on improving their bodies. They actually use energy, but they spend all that energy to feed their bodies and get different gains.
Simply put, the greatest advantage a warrior has is physical strength. On a constant basis, warriors develop quite a lot physically with each level up. From level one to level 6, they gain a physical strength of 80 kilos at all levels, and then at each level this may increase by different factors.
"For example, a normal rank 6 warrior can lift 500-pound boulders with the constant force of both arms. Horse rank 7, he carries 650, 1 ton at 8, 1.6 tons at 9, and 3 tons at rank 10. Not everyone's body will be the same but these numbers are average figures. They are also amazing, right?"
Ren was stunned by what he heard. He was not a naive boy. He had a basic mathematics education. If a person carrying a load with only his arms could carry 3 tons, he also understood that most of this load was carried by the power of only the arms or upper body. He understood that if each arm had a lifting or striking power equal to 1500 kilograms, a warrior of 10 level could easily fight giant forest creatures or wild beasts.
"3 tons" seemed like too much for an 8-year-old. He was already convinced that a warrior was much stronger than a mage.
His mother, for example, was level 4 in the element "Mental", which is related to cerebral activities. She was a mage who had not progressed in the other elements. Although Ren knew it was too low, he had heard that the highest and only master in the entire Gan family was a 6th rank warrior. There were many warriors in the clan, but there was only one tangible mage. So his mother was in a pretty good position in the family.
But her mother had no physical strength either. Considering that a rank 4 warrior can lift an extra 300-350 kilos with both arms compared to her, Ren has already decided that he wants to be a warrior.
Dreaming big, Ren began to wonder about the abilities that would emerge at his first training in the morning. He seemed to see that he would already be revealed to be a hidden genius, and that he would be a very strong warrior and would also study witchcraft in case he needed it with him. In fact, when these came out, all his peers in his family would even want to play with him. With little dreams like these, he forgot about the mysterious cave and the bomb he had just made yesterday.
When he fell asleep a few hours later, his father still didn't come. And there were a lot of things Ren had no idea about himself and his family.
....
Awakened and dressed by his mother even before the first light of the morning, Ren left the house at six in the morning. It was freezing around because the sun hadn't reduced the night cold yet, she.
Cold, this year was worse than previous years. This autumn brought terrifying winds that weren't seen even in the winter of last years.
Strong winds coming from the other hills were very disturbing to the people going to work in the Clan. Since the Clan is in a mountainous area and on a hill, it would be windy both summer and winter, but the months before this winter felt really uncomfortable.
In areas where heating is a luxury, such as here, winter is generally disliked.
..
Ren parted ways with his mother a short distance from their house. His mother had to go to the main mansion and take care of some private business. She would then go to the warehouses and go about her normal business. Having forgotten that he still hasn't seen his father, Ren excitedly moved to the small dirt field used as the children's playground.
This was the only place in the villa where children were allowed to play and make noise freely.
Ren spotted six people on the field from afar and approached them. Five of them were his own age. There was another older girl standing in the lead. The girl looked like 13 or 14 years old. And strangest of all, she was surprised and excited the moment she saw Ren. Even though Ren didn't notice it, it was even noticed by the other kids that the girl was looking at him strangely.
A total of 7 people, including Ren and a girl, had to wait for only a few minutes. They saw an old man approaching the playground. Even though they couldn't see it from afar at first, when they got close, the children saw that it was the Clan Head. They were kids and even if they knew he would be here, still they didn't know what to do with their amazement.
The clan they belonged to bore the surname of a family. Among the most powerful clans in the city in terms of trade, the "Gan Clan!
Only two of these children directly had the surname Gan. Others were either the children of the employees or the children of members who were not of family rank but high enough to live in the villa. When living in the Family Clan, there is a huge gap between carrying the clan's last name or not. As these children's respect and fear of the clan chief was at very different levels, they all tried to appear respectful.
Ren, who had seen the clan chief before, scowled at Sirius, who was also named Gan, beside him. Blonde and tall, Sirius was talking excitedly, mingling with the other four children. The 5 kids were acting like they didn't have Ren with them. Ren could never understand the reason for this situation. For some reason, Ren had always been ignored and avoided. He was not harmed or discriminated against. He was also good with adults. But as for the children, no one was playing with him. It was weird.
But as it would be disrespectful to the Clan chief, he straightened his face and focused his mind on the situation in front of him. He envisioned a future in which children would follow him as his talents emerged. Then Ren wouldn't speak to these children and take his sweet revenge.
Six children and a young girl awaited the arrival of the Klan chief like soldiers at the ready. They all bowed their heads a little as soon as the old man approached them. It was common courtesy in that world to bow to someone who needed to be respected.
The name of the old man who is also the clan chief was Monk.
He called himself Lazar in his youth because his name was so strange. But when he was a very thin and weak young man, no one took it seriously. When he later became stronger and be the head of the clan, he was stuck with the people who made fun of him and started using a strange name like L. Monk Gan on paper.
He loved his own name when he grow up. But Lazar stuck with him sinse he was six years old. Due to a hasty and childish decision he made when he was still young, he put a suffix like L. in front of his name and reminded everyone of the harm of being too hasty.
He looked to be in his 60s. But actually he was 89. Even his 90th birthday celebrations became a horrific event within the Clan, as only a few months left. Ren was wondering why the man looked so young, knowing his age as his mother was working extra with the preparations of birthday event.
'Does being a warrior make you live longer?'
The old man looked at the children with a strong and gentle expression and began to speak. "Guys, I'm your Clan Head Monk. I know you've all come here for training. Without further ado, we're going to put you through different tests now." At this point in the conversation, he turned his head to the girl next to him and pointed with his eyes. "This young lady next to you is a guest from the Xarnin clan. Her name is Diana. She is a Sorceress. She will help me test you guys because I am just a warrior."
Ren and the children took turns going to Old Monk first. He was wearing a different kind of glove. It looked strange with the X on the glove and the tiny stone in the middle, but it wasn't scary either.
The clan chief took turns examining the different body parts of the children and placed his glove-clad hand on their bellies. He spent an average of two minutes per child, sometimes even closing his eyes. First, he studied the only girl among the children who didn't bear the clan surname. When he put his hand on her stomach and waited for a while, he shook his head with a sad expression. From the negative expression on his face, everyone understood that the girl couldn't physically become a warrior.
He told her not to worry and pointed to Diana next to him. Diana quickly approached and placed her hand on the little girl's stomach. After waiting for a while, she spent a minute again, touching the girl's forehead with her hand this time, as if she didn't want to give up right away. But the expression on her face was clearly evident.
All of the glorious future the girl could have had vanished before she even see it. She could be neither a warrior nor a mage.
Monk had already passed one of the other boys and completed the test when Diana spoke calmly to the disappointed girl and said she could go home. That moment Mont had a very happy expression on his face. It turned out that a skinny boy had a talent to be a warrior.
Even if the boy didn't carry the clan surname, it would be a big gain for the boy to be a part of the clan in the future.
As Ren waited at the end of the line, he watched as the Clan chief and Diana studied the four other children all the way to Sirius. Except for Ren, only 2 of the 5 children had potential. Which was just simply potential!
One of these two children, who was likely to fail even at the beginning of the road, was Sirius, and both his physical and spiritual characteristics allowed him to enter both groups. He could be both a mage and a warrior. Other than that, the short, skinny boy had potential. But Ren, squinting even as he stared at his image, didn't think this boy had any potential like Sirius. After all, even the susceptibility and potential that one has varies from person to person. And this boy was super skinny!
It seemed like it would take a long time for this boy to become a real warrior and develop with this body.
Finally it was Ren's turn. There were only 5 people left in the field now. The clan chief sighed as he watched the failed boys go home. The clan's child population was not growing very fast. Of course, it was a very difficult possibility that talented people would emerge every year in a small trading clan that did not total a thousand people.
Clan Head Monk spent a lot of time on Ren, slowly examining his different limbs before placing his hand on Ren's stomach. Besides, he knew Ren's face thanks to his mother. Besides, Ren was the last boy standing, and the Clan chief didn't want to make any mistakes. He had pinned his last hopes on this boy.
When his hands finally reached Ren's stomach, he squinted to close his eyes. But just when he was about to close it, he had to give up. He squinted his eyes, as if he couldn't believe what he was feeling.
Ren sighed with satisfaction when he saw the strange expression of the Clan chief. After all, he expected that he would be very talented, and he also decided to become an impressive warrior. As he predicted, a cool future is already in sight-
"Impossible!" Monk suddenly whispered.
