One step, ten steps, or thousand of steps and to be precise, she didn't know how many steps has she take and how many liters of her sweats was pouring out by her running. There were so many locked doors she has bumped in an effort to escape the scratching sound on the wall. The sound was following her since the moment she has been locked up in the school.
Her legs lost all feeling but her nerves refused to make a stop. She made a dull turn around the corner toward the stairs with the sound still behind her. Sometimes it got louder and other time it got softer as if it was playing with her and telling her that her life can be ended anytime.
She climbed the brick stairs covered nicely with the cement to the roof in rhythm with her flurry breathing and the singing of the night crows on the rooftop was not even helping to calm her raging heartbeats.
She arrived at the top of the stairs and grabbed the handle of the door to the rooftop with her sweaty hands. She couldn't help but turn around as she heard the sound like it was at the back of her nape before her eyes rivaled of an owl and screamed.
The singing of the crows has been broken by her scream and the door banged opened but nothing and no one step out before it slowly retracted and closed shut.

A girl with let loose blonde hair sat quietly on the chair one table away from the windows while her hand became pale as she didn't realize how much force she put into holding her old creaking pen, scratching roughly on the exercise book.
Although she was in her focus mode, she could still feel a chair being slid across in front of her table. She could also hear the conversations by several students across the room near the twin whiteboard, at the entrance of the classroom and even in the hallway.
Much to her frustration, she has been fighting a war with all the distractions coming in her ears for years, so with her awareness or not, she was immune to that. All she wanted at that moment was to finish her Historical subject notes.
Unintentional distractions were one thing, but for the intentional one in front of her was another story to ignore. All kind of swearing came crashing in her head every time her name was called by the dark brown-haired girl in front of her.
"Ya, JiU? Do you hear me?" the girl called her but she ignored her for the eight times already. The girl's eyelids shielding her sparkling eyes dropped down halfway as she pouted her lips.
"Kim Minji!" she barked her name again like a dog craving for the owner's attention and incidentally shook her writing arm thus messed up her in-progress note.
She caught up on what she did real quick as she covered her mouth with her hand, looking at the alphabet of Y have been stretched to the side.
"Ya! You dummy, Kim Yoohyeon!" her heart was not big enough to contain her growing frustration. All the chattering have stopped as all eyes were on her. "If you don't want me to cut your ponytail and whip your butt with it, you better let me finish my note you get me!?" she finished with a loud huff.
Yoohyeon nodded and murmured a sorry while still pouting her lower lip. JiU adjusted her skirt and was about to sit down again when another girl approached as she already beside their table.
"Excuse me, ladies. I know the class haven't started yet, but please refrain yourself from making a loud noise." said the girl with the monotone tune, indicating she was not interested in both of them.
"For example, shouting LOUDLY. In case you didn't get my meaning," she pressed the word 'loudly' and crept a slight smile, resulting in getting an annoyed look from the other two.
JiU rolled her eyes to the side before she rolled it back toward the girl. "For your information, we did get what you mean oh my dear Miss DUMMY of the Student Representatives," she smirked at her and crossed her arms in triumph.
'Here we go again.' Yoohyeon thought and sighed before she sat down on the chair, watching the small invisible electricity sparked between their eyes.
The girl leaned closer and gritted her teeth. "You old hag...its Dami. Keep that in your wrinkled brain next time." she falls back a little.
"That's what I said. Maybe you should buy a drill and poke another hole at your ears for a better hearing?" she suggested her sarcastic idea.
Dami gave up and was about to roll her eyes when JiU chopped her words off. "Don't you dare. Eyes rolling is just for me." she moved her standing index finger to the left and right.
Her opponent could just scoff in disbelief. "Whatever. I can still accept if she was the one that yells, but you?" it was her time to cross her arms. "You're one grade above us so your classroom is on the third floor, not here," she states.
"And please give your sister her seat back. I can't bear to see her sit with the chair between her spread legs. Ladies need to have some manners." she turned her back and walked away to her table at the most front in the center.
Yoohyeon didn't bother to fix her sitting position even though she got criticism as she just observed the strict girl walk away.
"Tch!" JiU slammed her foot on the unoccupied chair next to her. "I bet you she will be a General in the military someday."
She removed her foot from the chair before it collapsed to the side. "Dang it. I broke it," she said and tried to make the chair stand up again.
"Ahah! You'll get it now." Yoohyeon stood up, peeking from the other side of the table.
"My dear sister. Please be a helpful human being in the early morning and come help me."
"I'm gonna say no. I'm not gonna get involved." she declined and rushed out of the classroom.
JiU trailed her movements with her head. "Ya! Where in the world are you going!?" she didn't get any reply beside the sensation coming from someone at the front, so she continues to fix the mess she created.
She glanced to her book and pen on Yoohyeon's table that she uses. "Aish! To hell with that," she said and averted her gaze back to the broken chair. "Know what? To hell with this too." she left the violated chair on the floor and spun her heels around.
"Holy macaroni!" she startled by a boy behind her, staring at her and then moved his gaze to the broken chair.
JiU noticed his head movement so she gets ready to receive a yell or even a swear. He was wearing a black hoodie with red stripes on the center inside his school uniform and his annoyed stare is a bonus point to that.
He just moved his bag from his shoulder into the table before he grabbed the chair and exited the classroom.
JiU chuckled. 'See? Even a delinquent got scared of me but...' the mode on her face changed as her amusement dropped. 'Why couldn't I feel or hear him when he came behind me?'
