John whispered to Mark. "Let's go there tomorrow,"
"Alright, let's go," Mark whispered back. "Okay kids, let's continue playing!"
The next day, John and Mark met in between their respective houses. They walked to the edge of their village, made sure no one was following them, then went under the fence through a hole they dug from a basement of an abandon building. As they were doing that, Cynthia went to that edge of the village to take a break and eat when she noticed them leaving. No one was supposed to leave without permission. She was curious and seeing as she had time, she decided to follow them. Since John and Mark were sure no one was following them before they got out of the village, they didn't try to hide where they were traveling, which made it easy for Cynthia to follow them from a distance. Everyone received training on how to hide and hunt no matter what the families profession were. However, as the daughter of a healer she was able to get training by multiple experience warriors and hunters due to them owing her mother their lives.
After twenty minutes of following them, she decided to head back because she assumed they were just out for a walk when they stopped. She ducked behind a bush. The dark green clothing she was wearing that day blended in with the foliage around her. She watched as John and Mark crouch and start removing the dirt around their feet.
"Ready?" she overheard John say to Mark.
"Of course," Mark replied. John opened a metal door that was in the ground.
Cynthia wondered how long that had been there. Had they built it or had it already been there? As she was running hundreds of questions through her head, John and Mark jumped inside and closed the hatch behind them. She waited a few minutes before following.
As she opened the door, she notices how rusted the door was and the noise it made when it opened. She took the creaky steps one by and slowly closed the hatch behind her swearing at the creaking of the door hinge. There was darkness unlike anything she'd ever experienced. She couldn't see her own hands. After waiting her her eyes to adjust in the darkness she proceeded. Cynthia walked, putting her right foot out in front of her and slowly tried to feel around for something she could use as a guide. She bumped into a wall in front of her. That's when she noticed that the hall split in two. She decided to trust her instinct and followed the right path. As Cynthia walked down she saw a variety of shaped but couldn't make sense of what exactly it was. After traversing a while longer it was eerily quiet, she begun to think she chose the wrong hall.
Cynthia was then tackled to the ground by something unknown to her. She couldn't see what it was, but it was strong. Her hands now pinned, she kicked, twisted, turned, but something else pinned her legs. Trapped, a blinding light hit her face. That's when she heard a voice. It was John and Mark.
"What are you doing here?!" Mark hissed.
"Why are you doing leaving the village without permission?" Cynthia threw back.
" How do you know we don't" Mark said.
"Because I saw you guys leaving from an abandon house." She looked at Mark face for any indications he was lying.
"Fine. we'll show you," Mark said getting off her. As they walked John explained how they found this place a week ago while training. They were setting traps in the forest when John tripped on the handle. It took both of them to open it the first time. When they got in, they explored the areas they could access, however they were taking longer then anticipated. Deciding to leave further exploration for another time where they can conduct an in-depth investigation on what they had stumbled upon. So they left that day, returning often as possible.
"We've explored all we could so far, some places are blocked by rubble, others flooded, and some door won't open no matter how hard we try to pry it. There are many parchments with small beautifully symmetrical letters, the metal more durable then we can craft, and technology profound yet simplistic in achievement of it goals." Mark said.
"Have you two found the brain yet?" Cynthia asked. They looked at her with confusion written on their face.
"What's that?" they asked simultaneously.
"It's a place where they make everything work. There's a lot of buttons you can push and maneuver. Blockers are usually doors that are sometimes impossible to open but when you do, usually contain powerful weapons, designs and materials. Although they don't always work, with time some have degraded, but can still be used as research." Cynthia told them as she looked around. John and Mark looked at each other in astonishment. This was the first time they have heard anything like this.
"How do you know about this?" John asked.
"Patients don't always have items to trade, so they trade knowledges, skills, and favors. Sometimes they tell stories when we are helping them and some talk in their sleep," Cynthia told them.
"So have you found any place like that?" she asked them.
