"I was busy with a patient," Cynthia said as she approached John and Mark. John studied her intently. He liked everything about her, however he especially liked her hazel eyes that sparkles in the light. Cynthia noticed how John was looking at her, she focused on Mark so that she wouldn't feel embarrassed. She could lose track time gazing into his bright green eyes. When caught in the light, his eyes remind her of a field of grass swaying in the cool breeze. She couldn't stay focused on John, so she looked at Mark.
" Happy birthday, Mark," Cynthia said, walking towards him she embraced him "here's your present."
"Thank you, but it's not until tomorrow," Mark stated with a smile as he secretly tried to ger some of her long brown hair off his face.
"I know, it's just that I won't be able to visit you tomorrow since I will be busy all day helping my Mother" sigh "even now I have already been away for too long". After saying that. she hugged Mark again and said her goodbyes to both of them and her brothers. John followed her with his eyes as she walked away.
Once he was sure Cynthia couldn't hear them, he told Mark, "She likes me huh? Everyone knows it right? Bullshit! she didn't even look at me for more then a second."
"The only people who doesn't know you guys like each other is you two. Her eyes said more than any amount of words could. Plus it wasn't one but five seconds. I counted," Mark said as he finished with a smirk.
"Let's go. We still need to watch the kids. I got a story to tell them," said John with a lopsided smug smile of his own.
"Okay kids gather around, I have a story to tell you," John shouted so the kids could hear them from where they were playing. He waited for the kids to gather. "I'm going to tell you a story of why things are the way they are and how it came to be. Are you ready?" John said with a grin. The kids looked interested and confused. They have all heard the stories of their past from their parents but something seemed different.
" A very long time ago in the year 2025, resources were low, and nobody could deny it anymore. People started taking food, water and other precious resources. Money started to lose its value around the world. People would only exchange for other resources, but that too eventually became a problem. Over population was at an all-time high. Humanity had reached over 13.5 billion people worldwide. There were laws in place to limit the amount of children someone could have, but that was only cloth covering a very large wound. People with the most influence where over hoarding. Eventually people found out and they were infuriated. These people were allowing others less fortunate one to die due to their hoarding. There was civil war within many countries around the world, but the U.S. government found a way to influence the population in order to go to war with their neighbors. Once the first bullet was fired on foreign soil, there was no return. War raged on for over five years until the first MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) missile was launched, and then everyone with the capability started launching their own largest non nuclear missiles. After the dust had settled, they realized no one person or country could win, so they, the governing powers, started to get into secret alliances and backstabbing each other whenever it suited them. This secret war lasted fifteen more years. It was until Russia, who fired the first nuke and then everyone followed. Everything else happened in a blink of an eye. Humanity's population went to the low hundred thousands. Now in the year 3250, most of the radiation from the least radiated places has dissipated allowing for us to walk most of the earth again, and it's finally time for humanity to rebound," told John to the group of kids.
Mark walked up to him and exclaim while whispering" What the hell are you doing". " You know you're not suppose to tell them that. it's not our place, they are going to be told when they come of age. you could get us in trouble."
"Relax," John said with a satisfied smirk. The kids were just in awe; they had never heard a story quite like that. Then some started clapping. John took a bow and said "thank you" as if he just received an award. Then he looked at Mark and said, "See, they love it and if they do say something, it's just a story I made up."
