Chapter 10 - East Imperial Academy (10)

Perched atop the roof's edge, the two student seniors conversed merrily.

" Although I said he was interesting, I didn't think he'd be this talented.." the mysterious senior Sawako muttered in astonishment before turning to her ever unreliable club president " what do you think, Senior Yang?~"

The so called 'Senior Yang' nodded in agreement, foolishly smiling from end to end,

" He's definitely amazing, but if it ever came down to it, I would definitely be the one to-?!"

Before her club president could derail the conversation with his usual bragging, Sawako took the initiative to dump the rest of her lunch on top of his head.

" …will he be alright?" She asked hesitantly, the sight of her junior falling to his knees and fainting was still very much in mind

" hmmm…mmmm, hmmm~mhhmm.." her nonsensical friend waffled in place, swinging around his head from one side to the other in a complicated gesture of contemplation before reaching an answer.

" No idea..?" He shrugged, food crawling down his shoulders

Hearing his nonchalant answer, Sawako Rei began to question whether her enigmatic president could survive a nine-story drop

Seemingly sensing his vice-president's dangerously worsening mood, he hastily explained

" -You saw his reaction too didn't you? A normal person would've brushed off what I did as a light trick or something of that nature."

" But he didn't, which means..?" She continued

Senior Yang struggled for a few moments as past experiences shuttled within his mind

" …When people believe that something is impossible, they tend to defend that belief even when said impossibility actually occurs. It usually takes a very long-time to accept it, if at all. The same applied to you back when I first succeeded, but that's not the case for him. He witnessed something that he believed to be absolutely impossible, and accepted that truth instantly."

" But what if he had already believed in that stuff? Wouldn't my previous theory of people being able to sense spiritual energy so long as they believed it to exist apply to him?" She questioned

" It's qi, not spiritual energy." He interjected

" Semantics" she rebutted

" You-… fine, if he actually believed in it from the start, then he wouldn't have fainted from shock. Plus, if your theory was actually true, I can think of a few online daoists who would've already ascended by now." he regretfully claimed " You need an extraordinary amount of talent to sense qi, the fact that he was able to do so is proof of his own talents, as for whether or not that those talents eventually devour him, that's his problem, not mine."

She sighed, turning her gaze back down to the spot where Yu Xian had previously fainted,

A passing student had already carried him away a few minutes ago.

" …no need to dwell on it too much, if he really is that talented, he'll come to find us eventually." he held out his hand " Rei.. Let's go."

She gave him a soft smile before reaching her own hand forward.

With their hands interlocked, the two senior students walked to the rooftop's center. Parked upon it was a vehicle that resembled a mixture of both a helicopter and a miniaturised cruise ship. A small section of it opened up into a bridge before them.

As they ascended the steps, senior Yang paused,

Turning his head over to the direction the now-prospective member was carried towards, he whispered;

" Good luck."
