China - Shanghai, Summer 3018
Yan drummed his fingertips impatiently against his cheek, pensive. He studied the holographic projection of the human subject that was 'standing' in front of him. Female obviously. Surprised that his body had felt a slight interest in her appearance. Her face was sharp and symmetrical. Her eyes large and clear. Her skin was soft and her hair fell around her face like nothing that he had seen before. This was what they called a fashionable "hairstyle' one thousand years ago in old Earth. The Council had briefed him this morning about the female who indeed had the gift of 'foresight'.
Yan had scoffed at the idea that any human was powerful enough to see the future. This was a myth, a legend that had been passed down from generations to generations. Even with the advanced knowledge of the human race one thousand years on from its ancestors, there was not even one recount of any human that had the gift of 'knowing' in any of the scripts that he had poured through in his studies. No recorded evidence...nothing, until now.
This had piqued Yan's interest. For he was not a firm believer that this 'power' was real.
"It exists" the council had said, "There has been one recorded evidence that was found, yesterday in fact...in old England...a journal entry...dug up from the excavation"
Yan eyed the 'evidence', which was projected to him from over five thousand miles away. This method called telepathic transportation allowed the person who was looking at the actual hard evidence to transmit this as a visual representation to another person, so that it appeared as the exact same vision in their space as well. There was nobody more skilled at teleportation than his good friend and Council colleague, Jin, whose abilities expanded way beyond a few thousand miles.
'...And just like that, the handsome face came to find me. Except I knew that we were two people who existed in the same place impossibly. He had knowledge that I did not know...yet I could foresee his knowledge as part of my gift that I have been trying futilely, to hide to suppress. He would come from my future and seek me from his past. This time, it would surely mean the end for me and the start for him"
Yan had been sceptical about this evidence, "This could be anything...a story perhaps. We all know that our ancestors were awful romantics who poured their time in writing and reading made-up fantasies". But the council were quick to point out that the journal had a second excerpt...
"...And in one thousand years time he will travel to find me and I would have to convince him that my entry is not a story nor a fantasy. Is it true that I will need to demonstrate my gift to him so that he knew I was the real deal? In any case I'm sure the thing called a 'Council' and the man called Yan will want to ask for my help. So when you find this...deep in your excavation, note that I will wait for you to arrive and when you do...bring an umbrella"
Yan raised an eyebrow at the mention of his name. As the world fell into destruction and despair, its people turning on one another as the toxicity of greed and animalistic thoughts poisoned the society. The only way to fix the problem was to foresee the problem in the timeline and eradicate it, like a virus being swiped from the data so that the problem ceased to exist in the first place. Yan brushed his eyebrows ever so gently, an old habit that he often did, a way to help him think. "If I am to retrieve her and bring her here..." Yan said, "Perhaps we can run some tests on her to see if she really does possess what we are looking for". And certainly if she was as skilled as the council seemed to think she was, then perhaps she could be a useful weapon within the fight for peace and harmony.
