Chapter 54 - A Battle Of Wits

After parting with Hong Chen, Ying Yue runs off to find anyone that would be willing to sell her a horse. Ying Yue runs to the closest horse stable she could find. Off into the far right; about twenty feet away, Ying Yue spots someone. An old man, looking to be over fifty was washing the horses and tending to them.

"Sir, please sell me your fastest horse!"

"A horse? What does a woman like you need it for? Can you even ride it?"

"Yes, please. How much for the horse?"

The old man grows suspicious at how urgent Ying Yue was acting. Rather than answering her questions, he leans in closer and squints his eyes for a better look. Ying Yue quickly backs away and glares at the old man.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Ah, don't mind me. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Sorry young lady, but I can't sell you my horses."

"What? Why not?! I'm willing to pay you for them!"

"I don't want to get involved in whatever you're in. Please find someone else."

"What do you mean by that?"

The old man points to a direction behind Ying Yue. Even in the dark, with only the moonlight as the main source of light, Ying Yue could see the figure standing in front of her clearly.

"Bai Chun...!"

Without any hesitation, Ying Yue grabs hold of her sword and pulls it out; pointing it to the direction of where Bai Chun was standing.

"Well, I knew you couldn't have gone far."

"Stand back. I won't hesitate to kill you if you come any closer."

"Hah. Human woman. Don't get too cocky."

Bai Chun charges at Ying Yue with his sword. Ying Yue had to act quickly; removing her cloak, Ying Yue dodges Bai Chun's attack and retaliates by diverting his blade away with her own. The moment Bai Chun's sword hit Ying Yue's sword; a large force sent Bai Chun flying back.

"What is that sword?!"

Ying Yue gasps at the sight of seeing the sword glow. It was like the sword had a mind of its own. Rather than Ying Yue using the sword, it was more like the sword was using her. Ying Yue tries to remove the sword from her right hand but was unable to.

"What is up with the sword now?"

Ying Yue continues to shake her hand; hoping the sword would fall off, but it wouldn't. As Ying Yue was distracted, Bai Chun sees his chance and charges at Ying Yue again, only to be knocked away by the sword. Every time Bai Chun took a blow from the sword; he would spit out blood as if he was just cut.

"The sword didn't even cut you! How are you bleeding?"

"You damn woman. How did you get your hands on that sword?!"

"That's none of your business! Now if you're still intending to harm me, you'll only end up hurting yourself."

Bai Chun sits up and rubs his chest where he was hit by the sword charges. Ying Yue watches as Bai Chun shoves his sword back inside it's scabbard.

"Bah! Forget it. Killing you was not my intention anyways."

"Such lies! For a cold-blooded killer like you, life and death means nothing to you."

"You pulled out your weapon first woman. Now stop wasting my time and return to the palace with me."

"No! You brought me here against my will. I'm returning to the dragon kingdom!"

"Do you not know how far Xinjing is from the dragon kingdom? You'll never make it there alive and on your own. Besides, what's the harm? If I wanted you dead, you would be already. I had plenty of opportunities to do that while you were still unconscious."

Although Ying Yue hated to admit it, Bai Chun did have a point. She had no idea how to get back to the dragon kingdom and needed to learn more about her sword. Swallowing her own pride, Ying Yue stomps on ahead of Bai Chun towards the palace.

"Wow, why the change of heart?"

"For a cold bloody killer, you sure talk a lot."

"Ha Ha! No wonder my nephew is so attached to you."

Ying Yue stops in her tracks and turns around to face Bai Chun.

"You know I'm Jianyu's wife and yet you kidnapped me. What are you really planning Bai Chun?"

"That's for you to find out."

Bai Chun leaves Ying Yue behind as he continued to walk towards the palace. Once Bai Chun no longer emitted killing intent, Ying Yue's sword finally came off on its own. Ying Yue takes a deep breath and follows behind Bai Chun.

After walking for twenty minutes, Ying Yue was now back at the royal palace. Ying Yue watches Bai Chun's men come out to greet him. Among the crowd, Ying Yue sees a familiar face.

"Ah! If it isn't Song Qiu."

"You! You evil woman! How dare you lock me inside the prison?!"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Ying Yue unable to hold back anymore, bursts out laughing at the confused Song Qiu. Not to mention her face had red imprints that were obviously from hitting the wooden bars.

"Master! Do you see that?! She was the one who threw me inside the prison!"

"Enough of your bickering Song Qiu! I need you to take her to get cleaned up. The king and crown prince wants to see her."

"What.....What! No! I refuse to!"

The moment Song Qiu threw her tantrum, Ying Yue watched as Bai Chun's face change. Even his tone of voice changed. Ying Yue couldn't help but shiver at the sight of Bai Chun.

"Song Qiu, don't make me kill you."

Song Qiu shakes uncontrollably and tears up. With her quivering lips she meekly replies.

"I....I'm sorry...I'll get right to it Master."

"Good."

Once Bai Chun was out of sight, Song Qiu motions for Ying Yue to follow her to the side palace. Ying Yue was cleaned from head to toe by maids. She was even given a new dress and jewelry. To make sure Ying Yue didn't appear tired, the maids made sure to use heavier makeup on her face. Once Ying Yue was ready, Song Qiu dismisses everyone before telling Ying Yue to follow her to the throne room. Without looking back Song Qiu exits the room. Ying Yue had to quickly grab her sword and tie it around her waist before following Song Qiu.

"Song Qiu, why do you follow Bai Chun if you're so scared of him?"

"Because I owe him my life. You lived a life of luxury your whole life I bet."

"Hah, I wish."
