Chapter 1 - Chapter One

Fire. Black ashes filled the night sky as screams of the terror was carried by the wind. Blood splattered and stained the streets, people crying, screaming, and begging for their lives to be saved, only to be killed, torn, and ripped apart into the hands of the unknown beings that hunt in the night. These creatures of the dark devoured the living filled with such distain and hatred, looking for vengeance. The fickled demonic beasts placed humanity to extinction, ending their lives with swift, and fast movements. Village after village fell and crumbled into ruins, leaving nothing in its path, not a single soul would even be left alive.

A child, blinded by such chaos, had watched his own village burned, destroyed, and crumbled down to pieces and ashes. He shows no sign of emotions in his movements and dull eyes as he walked down the burning path before him. The screams of dying souls filled the darkened clouds as it echoes in his ears. His movements, almost lifeless and numb, were slow and wobbly as of a puppet being controlled with strings. The child had stopped his legs at a certain spot and slowly looked up.

Before him was one of the massive dark figure. As a child, his imagination was wild, his image of the figure before him was a beast. A beast with its shoulders broad and wide, black mass surrounding it as it feasts on a lifeless body of a headless human. The sound of bones and meat being crunched, chewed and ripped rings through his little ears and mind. His eyes were dull yet fear slowly began to settle in behind the emotions show in his eyes. His body quivered and felt as though it were twigs ready to snap. He tried to move, to run, to hide, anywhere but be one of those who had been lunch for them. However, his body refused to move as the dark beast stopped its feeding to turn its head slowly to child behind it.

Both beings had stared at each other for sometime, not a single one moving. The beast before him had fierce golden eyes, sharp and hellbound, looking pass the child and deep in his soul. When the child finally had control of his own body, he turned a heel and ran for his life. The beast behind him let out a high painful shriek, giving chase after the child. Tears threaten to spill as he pushed himself to run, to run as far as his tiny legs could carry him. However, his legs gave in when he tripped as another fierce strong and powerful demonic beast appeared in front of him, jaws dripping with blood, and a dark growl as it approached him. He tried to crawl the other way only to have stopped as the other demonic beast with golden fierce eyes was behind him.

He was trapped.

The child looked back and forth between the two beasts who had him trapped. "Mom..." he called out weakly. As the demon beasts grew closer, his shouts of plea and call grew stronger. "MOM!!" he shouted as the beasts lurched forward to him.

"MOM!!!" The young male, Xu YeunShei, woke up from his slumber of nightmares as he finds himself in the safety of his own little messy home. Sweat trickled down from his forehead as he catches his breath, his grip so tight on the blanket as though if it was his own life. 'Another dream...' he thought to himself as he swallowed a small lump forming in his throat, 'It will never end...will it...'

The young male grabbed a small dirty wet face towel as he used it to wipe the sweat off. The wooden sliding door opens as sunlight bursts in the messy room. He had to close his eyes shut tightly as he felt hands grab onto his shoulders and pulling him out of his messy straw bed and thrown to the floor.

"How many times do I have to tell you to keep it down trash bag!" The voice of a man said. This was his landlord, Ji WangShi, he was what people call a cruel tax collector. He was also the senior servant of the Ying Family. Xu YeunShei had lived in the Ying village for last thirteen years. 'How time flies...' He would thought to himself, 'Thirteen years passed and I still am being treated like this by other servants...how cruel the world can be when you're at the bottom rank of humanity...' his thoughts were pulled away by WangShi yelling, "You've cause quite a ruckus early in the morning. Look at this place!" He grabbed a handful of Xu YeunShei's hair and points to the broken vases, wooden furniture, and disheveled dusty curtains with his other free hand. It did look like as though a tornado went inside the room and disoriented and ransack the place then left to have the blame placed on Xu YeinShei's shoulders.

Xu YeinShei was released and felt a hard cover booklet hit the back of his head roughly as Ji WangShi continued to talk. "Dare I say you ignore me one more time, I'll have you know, I'll have the guards throw you out of here!" he said, "don't think just because Lord XiaoFeng favors you, doesn't mean we all do. I want this room spotless or I'll do more than just kick you out, Hack. Do you understand?" He didn't wait for Xu YeunShei to even reply as he leaves the room shutting the sliding door loudly as the young male finally pushed himself off the dirty floor.

Xu YeunShei looked for a brush as he brush the knots on his long black hair and placed half of it up into a simple bun as he began cleaning the room. This was his daily life for years. Despite, the mistress of this manor, Madam Jiahui, being scornful towards him, Lord XiaoFeng gave such a fatherly love towards Xu YeinShei even though he didn't need it. Though, he was grateful for it. Lord XiaoFeng offered Xu YeunShei a proper treatment of the manor but, the young male declines it knowing it will only increase the burning hate Madam Jiahui holds against him. He wouldn't blame her since it would ruin the reputation the Ying Family had always uphold. If Xu YeunShei accepted the offer Lord XiaoFeng made, rumors will spread like wild fire in town, and it would cause a huge problem for them.

Xu YeunShei finished his work inside his room. He took down the ragged, old, and tattered curtains by the window and walked out of the room and crossed the courtyard to clean and stitch it up. He walked to the well and washtub and began working on cleaning the curtains, when the guards of the manor were patrolling the courtyards at this time and were talking of some news that was told in town, Xu YeunShei couldn't help but listen to their conversation as he worked.

"I heard there was another village attack nearby," one of the guards said, "This one is closer to ours."

The other guard beside him nodded his head and replied with a gruff tone, "Apparently, some cultivators from a prosperous clan are going to be coming by to help protect and capture these attackers."

"As if we need their help." The first guard shook his head, "The world we live in is full of cultivators, the next thing you know, they'll be taking our jobs." he joked as they walked passed Xu YeunShei who was washing the dirty curtains. Once they were out of earshot, he turned his head to look at the direction they disappeared and back to the curtains he was hand washing. "Cultivators huh.." he said to himself and let's out a small scoff. "I haven't seen one in years.... Let alone a group of them. Wonder if things changed a lot.."
