Chapter 58 - The Magic in Our Blood

Edymond sat at Jasmines bedside, examining her arm. The burns were now dark red scars. However the witch has yet to wake up…

Was the magic fully removed? Or did the Goddrss only heal the damage? Edymond pursed his lips. Would the Goddess even know to heal the magic? Would she want to?

"What do you see?"

Kain asked from behind him.

"Vaṭukkaḷ eṉ tiṟamaikku appāṟpaṭṭavai. Tēvi maṟṟoru amarvu koṭukka vēṇṭum. (The scars are beyond my skills. The Goddess will have to give another session)."

Kain sighed, "do you think she'll do it?"

Edymond tilted his head. "Avarkaḷukkiṭaiyilāṉa piṇaippu kaṟaipaṭintatāka eṉakkut teriyavillai. Atai aṟintatum, inta peṇ tēviyāl kuṇamaṭaintatu āccariyamāka irukkiṟatu. (I am not sure, the bond between them is tainted. Knowing that, it's amazing this girl was even healed by the Goddess)."

Kain nodded, "you couldn't be further from the truth. Myriah doesn't trust jasmine and fights her every chance she gets."

Edymond nodded, a bond cannot be tainted to heal magic… he sighed, "Perhaps, I can try."

Myriah stared out the window of the car. She watched miles and miles of fields pass them by. She knew her left hand was still locked in Axels right. She also knew that she had to be cutting off his circulation, but her hand stayed wrapped around his. She didn't dare look at him lest she lose her courage and scoot to the far end of the car. Being away from him… Myriah felt like she would completely shatter.

There was too much going on. Too many questions and very few answers and even fewer suggestions or availability to find them. She felt like she was in a pitch Black Forest and she was so scared that she would hit a tree...

Axel makes that fear disappear.

In the meeting she learned more about her people. They were the ones to create the magical people as a whole. What for? Someone has yet to find an answer. How? It was never discussed. There was a haunted look in Nicholas's eye as the topic came and when the topic was changed so was that look...

Something else she learned was that in the throws of his phase, Tyler marked Mika as his. A feat that can only be done by a werewolf. To be able to claim, mark and impregnate one that wasn't a life mate. "The term 'consort' came from the werewolves." Sebastien had murmured. "Vampires are openly lustful creatures, but can only claim one." "The way a Vampire is the only creature that can siphon darkness..." Nicholas's nod of approval had Myriah hiding behind Axel. Myriah could easily say that she wasn't too fond of him.

Then she got to meet Nicholas's lovely life mate, Haru. A demure woman with a perfect oval face. She had doe crystal blue eyes and plush pink lips. Haru was one of the youngest vampires alive at 200 years old and a barley noticeable baby bump to boot. "She's one of the first to hold a pregnancy this long." Amira, a five hundred year old midwife supplied, "As I'm sure you can see, young one. You and the boy give us hope that our women can bring children into the world still."

"Bear in mind the age difference." Angalo murmured, "Atoli is barley going to be 600 years old and we have lost three of our children to premature bearing." at the confused tilt of Myriahs head, Axel leaned close to her to explain: "My brother is a third generation Vampire. One of the purest besides Nicholas. The magic in our blood grows in power with age. Atoli was a human when she was turned. There was no magic in her blood to sustain her unborn child." Myriah nodded, thinking of some books she could read to supply the missing links. In the midst of that particular topic, Myriah was volunteered as a healer and Atoli was volunteered to be at Haru's side. The sad expression on Atolis face was only noticed by Myriah.

'My mother wore that expression when she lost my youngest sister… did Atoli lose a child too?' Myriah was fully well aware of the fact that she could search the girls mind… however it would be invasive. Maybe she didn't want to talk about it. Myriah nodded to herself, as another with many things that she didn't want to speak of… the respectful thing to do was to leave it to time.

Myriah didn't notice that her grip on Axels hand had slacked until she felt his arm slip around her shoulders. "Wha-" "You're still very far." He murmured, by way of explaining his affection, "your emotions are racing from one to the next and back." He supplied. "I-"

Myriah sighed as her mind went back to the meeting, seeing Axel place the spelled brown satchel onto the table. She watched Bash try to open the satchel only to yank his burning hand away. Gabriel scoffed and tried next, for his arm to catch fire as well.

Nicholas stepped forward and placed a hand on the satchel. Nothing happened. Myriah did notice the slight red that was hidden in his pant pocket. Angalo stepped forward and pulled the heart like stone from the bag, to remove a scarred hand that Myriah healed on the spot.

"Myriah." Angalo murmured her name in thanks. "You try to touch the stone." With a tilt of her head Myriah placed a hand on the stone and nothing happened short of the stone releasing a magnificent light and then Myriah falling to the ground unconscious.

"This is the fabled dragon heart." Nicholas murmured, "I always thought of this as a rumor, just like the sleeping baby."

"What do you mean?" Axel asked as he gathered Myriah into his arms. "The dragon heart was said to be used in the creation of our people. It's said that the dragon that that heart came from had a life mate who was sacrificed along with the unborn child. In hopes of creating a weapon to 'balance the world.'"

"The Dragon Goddess." Atoli whispered, at which everyone looked at her, "Edymond called that being, the one who could touch the stone and remain unscathed... the Dragon Goddess."

Myriah stirred when Axels hand touched her hair. "It's ok to sleep," He murmured, "We still have a long way." Myriah offered a half nod before she was unconscious again. The last thought that crossed her mind was the thought of the Sleeping Baby. 'am I that baby?'
