Class that morning went well, but Zuo Aiai felt restless whenever she thought about the text message from Jin Di.
She couldn't pay much attention to the lecture. He hadn't mentioned when and how they'd meet in the text message. How would he get to the University? Would he really drive his car, which cost millions, right up to campus?
She felt uneasy and walked towards the campus's main entrance, textbooks clutched tightly against her chest.
Suddenly...
She bumped into a woman who was rounding the same corner that she was.
The woman's books spilled all over the ground. Zuo Aiai quickly squatted down to help her pick them up.
Zuo Aiai apologized profusely.
But the woman didn't say a word. She hurriedly picked up the last of her books and left. Zuo Aiai was used to being treated in this way; her peers had never liked her much. Unbothered by the situation, she turned around, picked up her bag, and left campus without a second thought.
---
"Yang Yang, well done. Did you manage to put the recording pen in like I asked?"
The girl called Yang Yang nodded in panic. Zuo Yunyun took out a bank card from her pocket and placed it in her waiting palm.
"Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. My sister hasn't been home for the past few days. I'm a little worried about her, so I want to find out where she's been. After all, my sister's private life hasn't exactly been..."
Zuo Yunyun left what she was about to say open to interpretation. Yang Yang was not a fool. Whether it was the Zuo family or the Chen family, they were not ordinary people. She could not afford to offend either side, and so she kept quiet.
She knew what she should say and what she should not say. She took the money and left in a hurry.
When Zuo Yunyun was left alone, she smiled and took out her phone from her pocket. She turned on the GPS location software. The look on her face was unprecedentedly vicious.
"That voice recorder is equipped with a GPS system," she said to herself. "I'd like to see where that b*tch Zuo Aiai got off to last night. When I find out who she was with and show Ziyi a picture, I don't think he'll miss her anymore!"
---
Zuo Aiai received a text with the name of the diner just before class ended. She was relieved that he hadn't come to pick her up.
She had heard of this restaurant. Apparently they had a famous chef from France and received only twenty guests per day. Going there for lunch was a luxury.
This dress code was very formal, but when she'd gotten dressed this morning she'd put on a suit appropriate for school, not a top restaurant.
As expected, when she reached the door, she was blocked by the doorman.
"I think Mr. Jin should have made a reservation. He's probably waiting for me inside."
"I'm sorry, Miss. If you can't prove that you're Mr. Jin's female companion, I can't let you in. Moreover, Mr. Jin hasn't checked in yet. Why don't you give him a call now?"
This kind of place was only accessible to the most honorable people in Binhai City. The security was extremely strict.
She could understand why, but..she still felt anxious about calling Jin Di.
What happened last night was still vivid in her memory. And she hadn't seen or spoken to him since.
"Forget it. I'll wait outside until he gets here."
She found a seat on the bench just outside the door and sat down, intending to listen to some music to pass the time.
"I was wondering why you, who were supposedly penniless, suddenly had enough money to pay me back. Zuo Aiai, have you had a sudden stroke of good fortune? How can you afford to eat at a restaurant like this?"
The familiar voice and the slightly mocking tone were burned into her memory and completely unmistakable.
Hearing it, she felt nothing, just tired. "Even if I have, what does it have to do with you, Chen Ziyi? We're not engaged anymore." she said.
