NEXT DAY.

DAYBREAK.

Guan Xi got out of bed with a splitting headache.

When she woke up, Xiao Jiuyan was no longer in the room.

She had drank quite a lot of red wine last night, it was no wonder she was experiencing the hangover from hell.

Guan Xi raised her hand to rub her temples.

She paused.

Her wrist felt sore.

She only drank yesterday.

Why was her wrist aching too?

Suddenly, memories of what happened last night flooded her mind.

She... helped Xiao Jiuyan last night...

Guan Xi stared at her palm.

Her poor hands! They're impure now!

...

She remembered him saying, "Well done."

'Well done?!'

Guan Xi wanted to cry. Her hands were now tainted.

The only upside was that Xiao Jiuyan was satisfied with her, or at least her service, last night.

They should be able to put the whole thing behind them now.

Wasn't there a saying?

About men being simple creatures?

After accepting her punishment and helping him last night, she should be more than forgiven from her transgression.

...

After showering, Guan Xi headed downstairs to eat breakfast.

She was worried about all the awkwardness that could happen if she run into her husband. She just gave him a hand job last night for Christ's sake!

It wasn't technically scandalous since he was her husband after all. But still...

Guan Xi was worried for nothing, though, since Xiao Jiuyan didn't make an appearance at the dining table during breakfast.

It turned out that Xiao Jiuyan headed to the company early in the morning to deal with an urgent matter.

Guan Xi asked doubtfully, "Housekeeper Xiang, isn't Master Jiu a colonel? Why does he spend more time in the company than in the army?"

A hint of sadness flashed across the housekeeper's eyes. He answered somberly, "Since Master Jiu was injured a few years ago, he cannot go out on missions anymore. Although he still has a military rank, he mainly runs the family business now."

"Oh."

Guan Xi didn't know what to say.

She didn't know why, but she felt sad for Xiao Jiuyan.

He must have really liked living in the army.

It was obvious from how he would treat her and Xiao Jingming.

Now, he couldn't even stand up.

...

AFTER BREAKFAST.

Guan Xi had no classes today so she went to the hospital to see Little Grape.

Little Grape's condition hasn't improved so she was still in the ICU.

Director Liu and the staff of the orphanage took turns to watch her all night.

Guan Xi looked at Little Grape through the glass window of the ICU and listened to the director as she briefed her about the child's condition.

"Xixi, we've already called the police."

Director Liu said, "I hope we can get some compensation and give you your money back. I know that it must've not been easy saving up for that."

It was not likely for them to get that money, though.

There were no surveillance cameras at the place where the accident happened and no one remembered the license plate number. It would be extremely difficult to even collect a pool of suspects.

And even in the off chance that they catch the person, there was no guarantee that they would be able to pay Little Grape's medical fees.

Guan Xi had already paid 280,000 yuan and that was only for Little Grape's early medical fees.

She could only imagine how much more expensive the later stages would cost.

The director's words were only to comfort herself.

Guan Xi turned to the director.

She smiled and said, "Mother Liu, do not worry about it, money can be earned."

"Xixi, where did you get so much money?"

Director Liu added nervously, "Don't do anything you shouldn't do."

Guan Xi shook her head and promised, "I won't. Don't worry, Mother Liu."

...

Guan Xi stayed in the hospital until about a little past four in the afternoon.

She headed to Tongcheng University.

When she arrived at Tongcheng University, the class was just about to end.

Guan Xi peered into the classroom but she didn't see the person she was looking for.

She stopped one of the students and smiled sweetly. She asked, "Classmate, have you seen Young Master Xiao?"
