Guan Xi entered the living room and saw Xiao Jingming holding an exquisite fruit plate in his arms, lying comfortably on the sofa and watching TV.
"Young Master Xiao," Guan Xi greeted softly as she walked over to him.
Xiao Jingming shot up off of the sofa like it was on fire and turned to her in horror.
Guan Xi raised a brow.
Xiao Jingming handed the fruit plate in his hand to Guan Xi with a flattering smile on his face. He said politely, "Auntie, you're back! Are you hungry? Do you want some fruit? Or are you thirsty? Do you want some water? I'll go get it for you."
Guan Xi stared at him. "Umm..."
Why was he being so obsequious all of a sudden?
She wondered if she had hit the naughty boy too hard this afternoon and damaged his brain.
"No, that's okay," Guan Xi refused. "Just eat it, Young Master Xiao."
She might have given Xiao Jingming a beating this afternoon, but the rest of the Xiao family still knew her as Gu Wenxi. She has to keep up the pretense of being soft and timid.
"Auntie, you don't need to call me Young Master Xiao. Just call me Xiao Ming."
He chuckled and continued, "I'm watching Uncle Jiu. He went to a meeting today and the satellite TV station is now broadcasting it."
Guan Xi looked at the TV screen.
It was a mid-year report summary, a very important meeting, hence why it was a very big scene that was attended by many famous people that Guan Xi often saw on TV.
Despite the number of people though, Guan Xi was able to spot Xiao Jiuyan right away.
Xiao Jiuyan was sat in his wheelchair in the corner of the room. His face was expressionless but he still looked devilishly handsome. He exuded the quiet regal and power that most men aspired to have.
Guan Xi was a little stunned.
Her fake husband was so handsome!
Suddenly, they heard the sound of a car approaching the mansion. A moment later, a servant ran in and reported, "Housekeeper Xiang, Master Jiu is back. He seems a bit... drunk."
"Master Jiu is drunk?" Butler Xiang frowned. Master Jiu was not in good health and could not hold his liquor. He rarely even drank!
Housekeeper Xiang immediately ordered a few servants to bring Master Jiu in.
"Auntie, should we go and welcome Uncle Jiu?" Xiao Jingming asked.
Guan Xi nodded. "Sure. Let's go."
She honestly didn't want to as she was actually afraid of that old man.
However, he was still her husband. She has to perform her 'duties' to him.
At the entrance of the mansion, Guan Xi saw a hummer with the door open. One servant took the wheelchair out of the trunk, while the other two helped Xiao Jiuyan out of the car and into the wheelchair.
Although Xiao Jiuyan was slim, his body was toned and muscular. He was six feet and two inches tall and weighed a lot. The two male servants who were helping him into the wheelchair were actually straining a bit as they carefully positioned him.
"Master Jiu drank a few more glasses than usual tonight and got a little drunk. Please take care of him, Sister-in-law," one man said as he walked to Guan Xi.
Guan Xi recognized this man. He was Xiao Jiuyan's subordinate, Xu Ye.
When they got married, Xu Ye gave a toast to Xiao Jiuyan. He cried as he relayed to everyone how his boss took care of them all these years.
Guan Xi's ears turned a little red from being called sister-in-law.
"Don't worry, we will take good care of Master Jiu."
She smiled reassuringly.
She really was getting good at playing this role.
