Liu Yue also listened intently. He felt that Shuishui's advice would be helpful to him. In school, he performed slightly better than Qian Anzhi. His first choice for a school was the same as Qian Anzhi's. Anzhi had said that his sister also wanted to go to the third high school. Anzhi wanted to go with someone he knew, so Liu Yue also chose that school.
Even if he wouldn't qualify for the third high school, he still had two more options.
Mu Ziyu went to pay the bill, and Qian Anzhi left with Liu Yue. Shuishui and Ziyu walked to a nearby a coffee shop to rest. While seated at the coffee shop, Shuishui took out a small manual.
Mu Ziyu asked, "What's that?"
Shuishui showed it to him. He took it in his hand and opened it. He saw that it was filled with her notes. He couldn't understand it at all. "I find your notes very magical. It seems that you like physics very much."
"Yeah. How should I put it? This is a very magical world. Once you go deep into it, you won't want to leave." To Shuishui, science was a wonderful world. Other people wouldn't understand it if they didn't experience it firsthand. Likewise, she also didn't understand what businessmen and politicians enjoyed in the business and political sectors. She simply respected the interests of other people.
She skimmed through her booklet while Mu Ziyu closed his eyes to rest. He wasn't able to rest well the previous night. Shuishui drank milk tea and borrowed a pen. She began to write on her booklet. She tried to recall some principles she had learned in her previous life. She quickly wrote them down so that she wouldn't forget them.
It was almost time. Shuishui woke Mu Ziyu up. When Mu Ziyu woke up, they went to pick up Qian Anzhi. That evening, they went out for dinner. Qian Anzhi continued to chatter about his exam. Shuishui noticed that Anzhi seemed to be confident, and she said, "Be careful tomorrow. Don't think it's easy. If you write down a solution the wrong way, then everything is considered wrong. It's scary to be careless during an exam. Don't be so conceited."
Shuishui poured cold water on Anzhi when she saw his smug look.
Shuishui believed that one could not be too complacent. Besides, Anzhi was not a top-performing student. His complacency could be his downfall.
Qian Anzhi felt helpless after what Shuishui said. "Sister, can't you say something nice?"
"It's not that I can't say anything nice, but that's the truth. You have only one middle school exam to take. You can't retake that exam." Shuishui's words hit Qian Anzhi's heart. Indeed, if he did poorly in that exam, he wouldn't be given a second chance, and he wouldn't be able to go to a good school. His relatives would scold him. He would be very embarrassed.
Shuishui reached out to comfort Qian Anzhi. "It's a different matter if you worked hard and simply didn't get a good score. That's another way of saying it. I only hope that you can work hard to finish the exam and then wait for the results. If the results aren't as good as you expected, then at least you won't regret it in the future. Anyway, I did my best to help you."
She couldn't change Anzhi's life because she couldn't do everything for him, but she would give advice to her family based on her own experiences. Whether or not he would listen to her and heed her advice was no longer her concern.
Qian Anzhi suddenly realized what a cold person his sister was. If he wasn't her younger brother, she would probably ignore him. Was she nice to him simply because he was her younger brother? Suddenly, he was a little confused.
Shuishui saw Qian Anzhi's disappointed look. "You don't have to be so disappointed," she told him.
"Eh."
Shuishui thought that he was disappointed because she had scolded him, but she didn't think too much about it.
Mu Ziyu couldn't help but shake his head. Shuishui indeed needed to learn some things. However, he also knew that her straightforwardness reflected the purity of her heart. She was actually cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
When they returned to the apartment, Qian Anzhi went to bed early to prepare for the next day.
After the second day, Qian Anzhi and Liu Yue had successfully completed the exams and started to stay at home to eat and drink. They said that they would go on a trip together after Shuishui finished her exams.
Time passed very quickly, and Mu Ziyu had been busy with company management concerns. A few days before Shuishui's exams, Shuishui called Qian An. Qian An told Shuishui that he would be very busy in the next few days. It was the first time Qian An told Shuishui he would be busy and would be unavailable. Shuishui told Mu Ziyu about it. Mu Ziyu comforted her. "Uncle must have been very busy recently. Don't worry. You have to trust him. Besides, didn't he ask you to focus on your exams?"
Shuishui was comforted by the reminder. "That's true. It's only for a few days. There shouldn't be any problems." Shuishui began to review her notes in preparation for the exam. Although she was a top-performing student, it didn't mean that she wouldn't need to study.
Five days later, Shuishui finally finished her exams. Next semester, their arts and science classes would be divided. The school also conducted a survey among students to guide them in choosing their future career paths. For those who were not good in the arts and sciences, for example, they recommended degree programs in other fields.
The teachers didn't have any objections to Shuishui choosing science over the other fields. Her science teachers were very impressed with her performance, and her choosing science was no longer a surprise to them.
After the exams, Shuishui thought of inviting her father for dinner. On that day, Mu Ziyu was unavailable and couldn't pick her up. She directly took a taxi home and told Qian Anzhi she was heading there.
Qian Anzhi had told Shuishui that he was also heading home. When Shuishui arrived, the house was very quiet. Only their helper was home. Shuishui noticed that she didn't look too good. She looked at the helper and asked, "Auntie, where are they?"
The helper sighed and said, "Something happened to master."
Shuishui suddenly stood up in surprise. "Something happened? What do you mean? Tell me everything."
The helper didn't actually know the details. "There was a phone call this morning saying that master had an argument with someone at the detention center, and a few people attacked him. He ended up injured, particularly in the head."
Shuishui was still very calm. "The detention center?"
"I'm not too sure either." The helper couldn't say too much. She really didn't know.
Shuishui took her things and went out. She happened to run into Qian Anzhi, who had just arrived. Before Qian Anzhi got out of the car, Shuishui hopped in. "Driver, please wait a moment."
"Sister? What's wrong?" Qian Anzhi was shocked.
"I don't know yet. Call your mother and ask where father is now. Quickly." Shuishui sounded a little anxious.
Qian Anzhi immediately dialed his mother's number. It took a while before she picked up. "Mom? Where's Dad?"
"Your dad is in the emergency room of the Second People's Hospital." Li Xue couldn't hide it.
Qian Anzhi was stunned. "Sis, Dad is in the emergency room of the Second People's Hospital. What's going on?"
Shuishui shook her head. She wasn't sure either. "Let's go over first. Driver, please go to the Second People's Hospital."
The driver felt their nervousness and quickly drove over to the hospital. Qian Anzhi was instantly flustered. "Sis, why was Dad rushed to the emergency room?"
"I don't know either. We'll only find out when we get there. Don't panic. We'll figure it out first." Shuishui tried to console herself as best as she could.
When they reached the hospital's main entrance, Shuishui quickly handed the driver a hundred yuan. "You can keep the change. Thank you," she said to the driver.
She pulled Qian Anzhi and ran inside. Instead of calling Li Xue, she walked up to the front desk. "May I know what room the patient, Qian An, is in? We're family members."
"Please wait for a moment while we check." The nurse at the front desk quickly glanced at the computer monitor and said, "Mr. Qian is in the intensive care unit facility. He's in VIP room No. 8 on the sixth floor."
As soon as the nurse finished speaking, Shuishui and Anzhi ran towards the elevator. They became impatient as they waited for the elevator, which was still on the eighth floor. They then took the stairs and wildly ran upstairs.
Qian Anzhi was panting, but Shuishui swiftly ran to Room No. 8 without stopping. She was soon at the door. She gently opened the door, but she was breathing heavily and panting. She saw Li Xue crying beside her father's bed. Her father was lying on the cold white bed. Huddled over her father was a nurse who was checking his vitals. She walked over towards the nurse and asked, "How is my father?"
"That depends on how his body will respond tonight and tomorrow. If he wakes up, then he will be able to recover soon. If he doesn't, he might—"
"End up in a vegetative state?" Shuishui asked.
The nurse nodded. This news was a huge blow to the family.
Shuishui closed her eyes. Anzhi was already crying behind her. "Father, what happened to you?" Anzhi wailed.
Li Xue was speechless. She didn't expect such a thing to happen either.
Shuishui looked at Li Xue. "Why was Father in the detention center?"
Li Xue could not speak and kept crying. It was clear that she was very sad. Her feelings for Qian An were sincere. Her pillar of support had fallen, and she felt like the world was about to collapse.
Shuishui looked at Li Xue and repeated her question. "Why was Father in the detention center?"
Seeing that Li Xue was still crying and couldn't even speak, Shuishui looked at her father and suppressed the sadness in her heart. She was determined to find out what happened.
Shuishui went straight to the police station. She asked so many questions, and she finally found out what happened. The company was heavily in debt and was expected to declare bankruptcy in a few days. Furthermore, Qian An was suspected of corruption and was brought to the police station to be temporarily detained with the others. They did not expect that a conflict would occur. A few people beat up Qian An, and that had caused his severe injuries.
"I want to see those people who beat him up." Shuishui looked calm on the surface, but she was furious.
She couldn't really do anything at the time. She had to calm down. She wanted to see those who were responsible for her father's injuries. Even if she was underage, she had the right to do so because she was a family member. She tried to control her temper as she waited.
To suppress her anger, she clenched her fists tightly, but she tried to remain calm. However, the authorities did not allow her to see them. "I'm sorry, but they will be punished. You don't have to worry. The case is under investigation. Also, allegations about your father's corruption have not been cleared."
Corruption? She calmly took out her phone and called Teacher Li.
The authorities just watched, not knowing what she was going to do.
"Teacher Li, sorry to disturb you. I need your help." Shuishui's voice was trembling.
Teacher Li sensed that something was wrong. "Shuishui, what's wrong? Tell me. I will help you."
"My father was beaten up by a few hooligans in the detention center and was sent to the hospital. He is in a dangerous state. If he doesn't wake up, he will be in a vegetative state. I went to the police station to meet the people responsible for my father's injuries, but they refused to let me see them. They said that it was against the rules. I suspect that the police station is protecting them." Shuishui was very direct. She was very angry. Her father was probably going to end up in a coma, and they were being very sarcastic about it. Besides, they were the ones who had arranged for her father to be in the same room as those people.
She widened her eyes as she stared at the authorities. She wrote down notes about them so she could remember them later on.
This group of people felt cool. Shuishui's gaze scared them a bit.
Teacher Li thought for a while and said, "Don't be afraid. I will go there now. Don't worry. I will help you. I also guarantee that anyone who hurts someone gets the punishment they deserve."
Teacher Li went out directly. Shuishui was able to talk to him calmly, but he was very worried. When he arrived at the police station, he saw Shuishui by the corner. Teacher Li had brought one of his friends, a lawyer, with him. The lawyer even told Teacher Li that Shuishui did not need a lawyer. Teacher Li made a few calls, and they went in to talk to the authorities.
Teacher Li and Shuishui went in together, and the lawyer followed behind. Inside, they saw the three men who were responsible for beating up her father. They were casually eating, and they were even talking loudly and laughing.
Shuishui looked at them. Teacher Li patted Shuishui's shoulder. "Don't worry. I will help you."
Shuishui was glaring at the three men. When they saw a girl outside, they were a little confused. Someone even joked, "Could that juvenile have committed a crime? Little sister, you're so beautiful. Why can't you let it go?"
"Lawyer, if my father doesn't wake up, for how long can these people stay in prison?" Shuishui asked the lawyer.
The lawyer thought for a moment and said, "For intentionally hurting people, they'll be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of less than three years."
"Such a light punishment." Shuishui looked at the men. She had no choice but to remember their faces because that was all that the law dictated as their punishment. "Then I'll have to trouble you. When the time comes, you can send me their information," she said to the lawyer.
"Of course, but I've heard about what happened to your father just now. This must be dealt with. If you have issues with the police station, you can also file a complaint. What is important now is we find evidence that will support the case against them. Actually, there isn't much evidence to deal with. It's just detention. The police station is also responsible for such matters," the lawyer said. He was a friend of Elder Li. Naturally, he had to help. Also, it wasn't a difficult matter to deal with. He was also aware that it would be difficult to find evidence. However, if Shuishui could produce evidence, then they would definitely win the case.
Shuishui nodded. She was glaring at the men. "Yes? Evidence? It won't be difficult. After all, my father didn't do anything. I will try my best to find proof. When I do, I'll have to trouble you to file a case against them, along with a notice to the police officer in charge, regarding the matter. Don't worry about the expenses."
"That doesn't matter." The lawyer looked at Shuishui. She was so calm, and she spoke directly. He was surprised how a young girl could handle the matter alone, even while her father was still in the hospital.
Teacher Li patted Shuishui's shoulder. "Don't be afraid. I will help you. I'll get someone to investigate this matter."
Shuishui looked at the three men and left with Teacher Li. When they reached the door, the lawyer told them about the lawsuit.
The police officers were speechless. They didn't expect to be sued. They felt intimidated by the lawyer. He informed their chief immediately of what happened.
After getting into the car, Shuishui's tears flowed out. She felt so angry as she thought of her father's state. She became even angrier when the officers at the police station were not taking her very seriously. She was very furious. All of her emotions were piled up in her chest. She tried her best to act tough and strong in front of the others. She wanted to know who exactly had injured her father. She was also determined to find out who slandered against her father and spread news that he was a corrupt man.
She allowed her tears to fall, but she did not make a sound.
The lawyer was about to say something, but when he saw Shuishui crying, he quickly took out a tissue and handed it to her. "You did well," he said to Shuishui.
