Chapter 1 - "My Name is Hideko."

September 20, 2016

"Wake up sleepy head. Today is your first day of Kindergarten." The soft voice of Hideko's mother rang through the air and she attempted to wake the sleepy 4 year old. Her long raven hair was pulled up in a messy bun and her clothes were covered by her bright colored apron. The small boy didn't budge though and so she smirked before whispering something she is sure will get her sleepy baby up.

"I made blueberry muffins." That seemed to do the trick as tiny arms pushed back the covers in records time. Hideko nearly fell off the bed in all his excitement. His mother smiled fondly while picking up the boy.

"Let's go brush your teeth first bun." Hideko's dark hair was wild and unkept. The corner of his mouth had slobber trailing down his chin. But still he paid no mind as he smiled brightly.

The pair walked into their shared bathroom and got out his bunny toothbrush and toothpaste. After brushing his teeth she washed his face. When they finished the pair made their way into the kitchen where freshly baked muffins sat.

Hideko squealed in delight and ran nearly falling on his bottom. Because he wore a footed bunny onesie his feet slid more on the tile floor.

"Don't run bun, you don't want another boo boo." His mother scolded lightly.

"Sowwy mama." Hideko whispered with his lisp.

"It's ok." She said as she picked him up once more and placed him on one of the chairs. She sat in the one next to it and proceeded to hand him one of the now cooled muffins. She smiled again as she witnessed her son stuff his face and wiggle in his seat.

"Where's dada?" Hideko asked suddenly. He saw his mother's once bright mood damper before her smile was back once more.

"At work. He had to leave early." Hideko was the one frowning now as he questioned why his father always seemed to be working.

"Why is dada always working? He never is here anymore."

"Do you want another muffin bun?" She questioned changing the subject. She nearly smiled in relief when he shook his head vigorously.

Twenty minutes later and the pair were back in Hideko's room.

"I wan' bunny sweater." Hideko whispered as he pushed back his bangs. His mother cooed at her son before going into his closet and picking out a soft purple bunny sweater and blue jeans.

She walked to the dresser and got out matching purple socks.

She got her son dressed and then herself. She wore a grey long sleeved shirt and black jeans.

"Ok my favorite bunny, time to go." They walked into the living room and to the door where they put on their matching green coats. Hideko tried putting on his shoes but struggled so his mother helped him. Then she put on her boots.

They held hands as they walked down the street greeting the neighbors. Soon they made it to the bus stop.

"Hey, have you heard, Julian finally got enough money to afford his kids top surgery." The neighbor Shanna said as the pair sat down on the bus stop bench.

"Oh Jahana must be so excited. Did he ever figure out what he wanted to change his name to?" Hideko's mother, Sakura asked.

"He was thinking Xavier. Has a nice ring to it." Shanna responded.

"I love it. This is good for him. He can finally feel like himself in his own skin. I'm glad he scrapped up enough money. I mean we help him but it wasn't much. He did whatever it took though, true parent right there." Sakura said.

"I agree. Oh, the bus is coming." Sakura's head turned at that statement seeing the bus approaching.

It stopped in front of them and they got on.

"Hello Mr. Abraham." Hideko said to the driver as he sat near the front.

"Hey kid. First day of school today, you excited?" He asked.

"Yes!" He exclaimed causing some of the regular passengers to chuckle.

After another twenty minutes passed they got off. Hideko and Sakura had to walk another five minutes before finally making it to Savior's elementary school.

"Now when you walk in their what are you going to say?" She asked.

"Hi my name is Hideko, nice to meet you. Was that good mama?"

"Yes bun, that was amazing. Go get em." She gently pushed him into the classroom.

"Oh it seems like we have a new student. What's your name?" The teacher, a short ginger haired lady with freckles said.

Hideko looked around suddenly scared. He opened his mouth to talk but all that came out was a breathe of air.

"It's alright, take your time. My name is Mrs. Rosa your teacher."

"H-Hi my name is H-Hideko, nice t-to meet you." He said giving a small shy smile afterwards.

"Hello Hideko, now you may sit with Adrien. Adrien sweetie, please raise your hand." A small hand in the back went up slowly revealing a little boy probably the same age as Hideko. He had dark hair and cold hazel eyes. Hideko walked over and sat with a blush.

"Hi." Adrien said.

"Hi." Hideko responded.

"You wanna be my friend? You'll be the first one ever." Hideko asked. Adrien looked at him blankly before he broke out into a smile. One of his teeth were missing giving him a more innocent look.

"Ok, Hide. I'm calling you Hide now because it's short for your name. Plus bubba says friends call each other nicknames all the time." Adrien squinted his eyes then said, "why are your face red?"

"No reason."
