Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Whose Wife Are you

Mu Ru was too preoccupied trying to remember who he really was and where she had met him before. After a few moments, she realized she had forgotten her manners and had not been as courteous as was expected of her. She blushed and reached out to shake his hand.

"Welcome, President Nangong. Let's go upstairs," she said.

Mu Ru led Nangong Xun into the reception room.

After the secretary served the coffee, Mu Ru immediately took out the contract she had prepared and handed it to Nangong Xun. For two days, she had been practicing how to smile professionally.

She smiled and said, "President Nangong, please take a look. This is the Letter of Intent as a proposal from our group to your company. President Nangong, please see if there are any areas that need to be modified. Of course, if there are no changes—"

"Xi Muru."

Nangong Xun tossed the document aside. He did not even look at it. He just stared at her. He was frowning and was clearly displeased.

"If I remember correctly, you're only turning nineteen years old in a month. You should still be attending university. Why would you be working here? How did you become the CEO?" he asked.

After hearing his questions, Mu Ru found Nangong Xun even more familiar. However, she could not remember where she had seen him before. She had never heard of his name prior to their meeting that day.

Mu Ru answered Nangong Xun's questions truthfully.

She said, "I am indeed studying at Binda University. However, I am now Dongfang Mo's wife. You must have heard about my husband, Dongfang Mo—"

"What did you say?"

Nangong Xun had interrupted Mu Ru. He suddenly wore a gloomy expression. He gazed sharply at Mu Ru. In a deep voice, he asked, "What did you say?"

"Whose wife did you just say you were?" Nangong Xun continued to ask.

"Dongfang Mo," Mu Ru answered casually.

Mu Ru was frightened by the change in his expression and tone. She looked at his cold and dark face and asked, "Who did you say you were?"

"President Nangong. What's wrong?"

Nangong Xun continued, "Who asked you to marry Dongfang Mo?"

Nangong Xun seemed to be suppressing his anger. Through gritted teeth, he asked again, "Who asked you to marry him?"

"Wasn't Xi Muxue the one who married Dongfang Mo a week ago? How did he end up marrying you instead?"

Mu Ru was silent. She did not want to answer him, and it was no longer professional. She immediately tried to change the topic and pushed the document in front of Nangong Xun. She reminded him of their main concern. "President Nangong, do you have any objections to what is stated in this document?" she asked.

Seeing that he made no response, she again said, "President Nangong, please take a look at this document. Tell me if you don't have any objections."

"Of course I have objections," Nangong Xun answered bluntly.

Nangong Xun did not even look at the document. He tossed it aside and glared at Mu Ru.

"Go back and tell Dongfang Mo that I will be visiting him very soon," he said coldly.

Without even waiting for Xi Muru to react, he immediately stood up and walked out of the reception room. Secretary Jiang Xueyan and her assistant, who were waiting outside, were shocked.

Xi Muru held on to the document that was supposed to be signed by Nangong Xun. She wanted to cry but no tears came out. She did not complete the task that Dongfang Mo gave her, which meant that she would never be allowed to attend her classes. She had wanted to fight for her chance to go to school.

Realizing that she had failed, tears rolled down her cheeks.

She had spent three days and three nights preparing for that meeting with Nangong Xun, but she had failed. Nangong Xun rejected the proposal without even looking at the contents of the document.

It felt like she had been denied of a future.
